Tiempos felices: Transformaciones en las tecnologías psicológicas de gobierno de la subjetividad
2020
This paper traces some inflections in the psy disciplines? discourses and technologies for the government of subjectivity during the last decades. It is focused on exploring different mechanisms through which psychological disciplines ?their discourses, techniques and practices? penetrate social life and contribute to establishing subject models consistent with transformations in the political and economic rationalities of late capitalism. Drawing on previous research in the field of gender politics and happiness discourses in the pop psychological culture, I track a line with three moments: i) the production of psychological individuality and identity normalization; ii) the proliferation o…
Gamifying Teacher Students’ Learning Platform
2020
This paper presents initial results from a study exploring teacher students’ experiences related to the gamification of an online learning platform in higher education. The aim was to get an understanding of the participants’ views regarding the use of game elements and to examine the user type profile of this group in order to explore the potential of applying user types in planning gamification solutions for teacher students. The participants’ overall experience of having game elements as part of their course platform was principally positive. User types students presented were investigated using the Hexad scale adapted from game design: in this user group, Socialiser and Philanthropist w…
Performing arts and mediation technology in the period of lockdown
2021
Advancements in digital technologies have become novel ways to enrich communication, expression, and transmission of arts knowledge. Technology is increasingly implemented in the performance space, as a source of inspiration for artists. Especially in this period of lockdown, mediation technology has turned out to be an essential tool for different aspects of social life, as in performing arts. With venues, schools and artistic activities closed, performers, students and spectators have been obliged to keep connecting in remote conditions. This article wants to retrace the aesthetic impact of mediation technology in performing arts during this period of lockdown by focusing on the aspects t…
Learning Design for Future Higher Education – Insights From the Time of COVID-19
2021
The COVID-19 pandemic brought many challenges in higher education. All teaching and learning activities were moved online. Universities had to provide adapted solutions to facilitate learning and maintain students’ engagement. Online education implies creating new learning environments with the help of digital technologies. Beyond the process of acquisition of knowledge, teachers needed to facilitate cooperative learning, build positive relations, and reduce negative emotions. We provide some expert insights based on empirical observations on teaching and assessment practices connected with psychology models applied in education. The aim of the paper is to formulate specific learning design…
Cellular and Subcellular Localization of Peroxidase Isoenzymes in Plants and Cell Suspension Cultures from Lupinus polyphyllus
1989
Abstract , leaf protoplasts and cell suspension cultures of Lupinus polyphyllus and isolated vacuoles were studied for cellular and subcellular localization of peroxidase isoenzymes. Isoelectric focusing revealed 16 peroxidase isoenzymes. The basic peroxidase isoenzymes are predominantly localized in the vacuole and, to a minor degree, unbound in the intercellular space. The acidic isoenzymes are cell wall-bound in plants and not detectable in suspension-cultured cells. Large amounts (up to 11.0 U/ml) of a single basic isoenzyme are detectable in the spent medium of cell suspension cultures.
An Energy Blockchain, a Use Case on Tendermint
2018
The recent advances in distributed energy systems require new models for exchanging energy among prosumers in microgrids. The blockchain technology promises to solve the digital issues related to distributed systems without a trusted authority and to allow quick and secure energy transactions, which are verified and cryptographically protected. Transactions are approved and subsequently recorded on all the machines participating in the blockchain. This work demonstrates how users, which are nodes of the energy and digital networks, exchange energy supported by a customized blockchain based on Tendermint. We focus on the procedures for generating blocks and defining data structures for stori…
Detecting motion independent of the camera movement through a log-polar differential approach
1997
This paper is concerned with a differential motion detection technique in log-polar coordinates which allows object motion tracking independently of the camera ego-motion when camera focus is along the movement direction. The method does not use any explicit estimation of the motion field, which can be calculated afterwards at the moving points. The method, previously formulated in Cartesian coordinates, uses the log-polar coordinates, which allows the isolation of the object movement from the image displacement due to certain camera motions. Experimental results on a sequence of real images are included, in which a moving object is detected and optical flow is calculated in log-polar coord…
Proposition of Convolutional Neural Network Based System for Skin Cancer Detection
2019
Skin cancer automated diagnosis tools play a vital role in timely screening, helping dermatologists focus on melanoma cases. Best arts on automated melanoma screening use deep learning-based approaches, especially deep convolutional neural networks (CNN) to improve performances. Because of the large number of parameters that could be involved during training in CNN many training samples are needed to avoid overfitting problem. Gabor filtering can efficiently extract spatial information including edges and textures, which may reduce the features extraction burden to CNN. In this paper, we proposed a Gabor Convolutional Network (GCN) model to improve the performance of automated diagnosis of …
Correlation-Based and Contextual Merit-Based Ensemble Feature Selection
2001
Recent research has proved the benefits of using an ensemble of diverse and accurate base classifiers for classification problems. In this paper the focus is on producing diverse ensembles with the aid of three feature selection heuristics based on two approaches: correlation and contextual merit -based ones. We have developed an algorithm and experimented with it to evaluate and compare the three feature selection heuristics on ten data sets from UCI Repository. On average, simple correlation-based ensemble has the superiority in accuracy. The contextual merit -based heuristics seem to include too many features in the initial ensembles and iterations were most successful with it.
New Areas of Application of Comparable Corpora
2019
This chapter describes several approaches of using comparable corpora beyond the area of MT for under-resourced languages, which is the primary focus of the ACCURAT project. Section 7.1, which is based on Rapp and Zock (Automatic dictionary expansion using non-parallel corpora. In: A. Fink, B. Lausen, W. Seidel, & A. Ultsch (Eds.) Advances in Data Analysis, Data Handling and Business Intelligence. Proceedings of the 32nd Annual Meeting of the GfKl, 2008. Springer, Heidelberg, 2010), addresses the task of creating resources for bilingual dictionaries using a seed lexicon; Sect. 7.2 (based on Rapp et al., Identifying word translations from comparable documents without a seed lexicon.
