Transcriptional regulation of the stem cell leukemia gene by PU.1 and Elf-1.
1998
Abstract The SCL gene, also known astal-1, encodes a basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor that is pivotal for the normal development of all hematopoietic lineages. SCL is expressed in committed erythroid, mast, and megakaryocytic cells as well as in hematopoietic stem cells. Nothing is known about the regulation of SCL transcription in mast cells, and in other lineages GATA-1 is the only tissue-specific transcription factor recognized to regulate the SCL gene. We have therefore analyzed the molecular mechanisms underlyingSCL expression in mast cells. In this paper, we demonstrate that SCL promoter 1a was regulated by GATA-1 together with Sp1 and Sp3 in a manner similar to the situati…
Regulation of the sea urchin early H2A histone gene expression depends on the modulator element and on sequences located near the 3' end
1999
Abstract Transcription of the sea urchin early histone genes occurs transiently during early cleavage, reaching the maximum at the morula stage and declining to an undetectable level at the gastrula stage. To identify the regulatory elements responsible for the timing and the levels of transcription of the H2A gene, we used promoter binding studies in nuclear extracts and microinjection of a CAT transgene driven by the early H2A promoter. We found that morula and gastrula nuclear proteins produced indistinguishable DNase I footprint patterns on the H2A promoter. Two sites of interactions, centred on the modulator/enhancer and on the CCAAT box respectively, were detected. Deletion of the mod…
Physiological activation of the IgH 3' enhancer in B lineage cells is not blocked by Pax-5.
1996
The mouse 3' enhancer contains a high-affinity binding site for the paired box protein Pax-5. Here, we demonstrate by genomic footprinting that the rat 3' enhancer contains a low-affinity binding site for Pax-5, which is occupied in activated splenic B cells. Thus, binding of Pax-5 to the IgH 3' enhancer appears to be evolutionarily conserved in rodents. Analysis of Pax-5 expression in primary B cells demonstrates that Pax-5 remains expressed after 4 days of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induction, but is down-regulated in 5-day stimulated cells. Similarly, the expression of Pax-5 is down-regulated in vivo in activated large splenocytes, in contrast to small resting cells. Multimerization of the…
Effects of a Personal Goal Management Program on School and Football Self-Determination Motivation and Satisfaction of Newcomers within a Football Tr…
2008
Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a personal goal-based intervention on school and football self-determination motivation and satisfaction of newcomers within football training centres. Twenty-three trainees were divided randomly into two groups, either a treatment group or a control group. The treatment proposed to the participants was the Personal Goal Management Program. Trainees’ school and football motivation and satisfaction were measured before, during and after the intervention. Results indicated a beneficial influence on football motivation and satisfaction, and overall trainee satisfaction. Methodological and applied suggestions are made to favour adjus…
Club-militants, institutionalists, critics, moderns and globalists: A quantitative governance-based typology of football supporters
2019
This article presents a quantitative typology of football fans’ attitudes towards governance. Data collection is done through an online survey in six European countries: France, Germany, Poland, Spain, Turkey and the United Kingdom. Results reveal the existence of five types of supporters: club-militants, institutionalists, critics, moderns and globalists. The critics, moderns and globalists fans share a preoccupation for football governance problems but differ in the intensity of their views. At the same time, critics and globalists are heavy consumers of football games and merchandise. The results suggest that existing fan typologies that understand supporters in dichotomic terms of authe…
Cosmopolitans and communitarians: A typology of football fans between national and European influences
2021
International audience; The past 25 years have seen an unprecedented Europeanisation of the structures and governance in football across the continent. A European (and global) transfer market for players and managers has become the norm and a pan-European league system has been established that regularly exposes supporters to transnational competitions and players from all over Europe. At the same time, manifold typologies of football fans have been established, distinguishing groups of fans based on, for example, fan intensity, fan behaviour or their attitudes towards different actors in the field. The attitudes towards Europe and the self-identification of these fans within Europeanised f…
Learning Automaton Based On-Line Discovery and Tracking of Spatio-temporal Event Patterns
2010
Published version of an article from the book: Lecture Notes in Computer Science, 2010, Volume 6230/2010, 327-338. The original publication is available at Springerlink. http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-15246-7_31 Discovering and tracking of spatio-temporal patterns in noisy sequences of events is a difficult task that has become increasingly pertinent due to recent advances in ubiquitous computing, such as community-based social networking applications. The core activities for applications of this class include the sharing and notification of events, and the importance and usefulness of these functionalites increases as event-sharing expands into larger areas of one’s life. Ironically, …
Ácido hialurónico como tratamiento en úlcera neuropática: a propósito de un caso
2016
The prevalence of diabetic polyneuropathy in Spain is 22% increasing with age, standing at less than 5% in patients between 15 and 19 years and reaching 29.8% in those aged 70 to 74 years age. Infection is an important complication in Diabetic Foot, frequently associated with minor amputation and even lower extremity amputation. The study presents a clinical case of a 68-year-old man who consulted for a diabetic foot ulcer in the metatarseal area of the right foot, diagnosed two years ago and without healing success. An exploration protocol of the diabetic food was made. Afterwards, a surgical debridement was done and a cure procedure with pure hyaluronic acid, a bandage and foot unloading …
Secondary structure determination of conserved SARS-CoV-2 RNA elements by NMR spectroscopy
2020
AbstractThe current pandemic situation caused by the Betacoronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (SCoV2) highlights the need for coordinated research to combat COVID-19. A particularly important aspect is the development of medication. In addition to viral proteins, structured RNA elements represent a potent alternative as drug targets. The search for drugs that target RNA requires their high-resolution structural characterization. Using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, a worldwide consortium of NMR researchers aims to characterize potential RNA drug targets of SCoV2. Here, we report the characterization of 15 conserved RNA elements located at the 5′ end, the ribosomal frameshift segment and t…
