Technologies for green radio communication networks
2011
Since the introduction of cellular communications in the early '80s, the demand for two-way mobile communication services has increased tremendously. Today there are over 4 billion mobile users and 4.6 million radio base station sites worldwide. This rapid growth of the cellular mobile industry has been at the price of increased energy consumption and a sizable carbon footprint.
A Novel Approach for Accelerating Bitstream Relocation in Many-core Partially Reconfigurable Applications
2013
International audience; Partial Bitstream Relocation (PBR) has been introduced in recent years, as a means to overcome the limitations of the traditional Xilinx Partial Reconfiguration flow, particularly in terms of the limited module placement, a fact that can greatly reduce the memory footprint of applications which require multiple implementations of the same module... However, PBR consumes scarce resources in hardware implementations, and introduces a prohibitive time overhead when done in software. This is particularly true in applications such as large scalable systems, which typically require multiple copies of the same module to accelerate a task, but in which the relocation time ov…
Graphical user interface for serial protocols through a USB link
2012
In this work, a graphical user interface to communicate with three common serial protocols is presented. With one tool, the user may be able to control several evaluation boards from different manufacturers or evaluate and program integrated circuits of complex board prototypes. It provides a user-friendly interface to communicate with several chips using the USB port. The program has been used for the first stages in the qualification process of electronic boards for the Advanced GAmma Tracking Array (AGATA).
A method for calculating the crowding-out effect in sport mega-event impact studies: The 2010 FIFA World Cup
2011
Tourist expenditures constituted the largest part of the economic impact of South Africa's 2010 FIFA Football World Cup. However, limited air transport capacity and increased accommodation prices may have led to crowding-out effects. Until now, crowding-out could only be considered by using econometric modelling based on data of inbound arrival or accommodation statistics. This paper suggests a methodology for measuring the crowding-out effect precisely. It is based on the available statistics in South Africa and is applicable at province level. An important innovation is to distinguish crowding-out from time-switching effects. The paper explains the theoretical framework of crowding-out as…
Spatial homogeneity from temporal stability: Exploiting the combined hyper-frequent revisit of Terra and Aqua to guide Earth System Science
2021
Abstract The terrestrial component of the Earth system has witnessed considerable changes in the past decades due to anthropogenic action. Throughout this period, the NASA Terra mission has been constantly monitoring the surface with the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument. When combined with the MODIS instrument on-board of the Aqua platform, we obtain a hyper-frequent revisit capability providing sub-daily observations globally at a moderate resolution of ~250 m, but with a strong multi-angular variation of the observation footprint. Here we propose to exploit this particular configuration provided by the combined Terra + Aqua constellation to infer spatial ho…
Hungary:Filling the Gaps in the Strategic State Sector
2017
The aim of this article is to introduce the evolution of the private sport sector in Hungary. First, taking a historical viewpoint into account, the emergence of the private sport sector will be sketched from the 1800s to date. It is reasonable to say that with some exceptional periods such as the state socialist era, the private sport sector in Hungary has always been present, but its scope and forms of function have been adapted to the current social, political, and economic environments. Second, statistical data will be presented to show the structure and volume of the private sport sector using data from 2013. Third, the ‘development path’ of sport acts, which reflects the professionali…
Benefits of Hydrocolloid-Absorbent Dressings in “Diabetic Foot” Therapy
2020
Abstract The incidence of diabetes is constantly increasing, so in 2014 about 8, 5% of adults over the age of 18 had diabetes worldwide. Also mortality in patients with diabetes is increased, only in 2015 being the direct cause for 1.6 million deaths worldwide. Worldwide, there are currently 425 million people living with diabetes; by 2045, 629 million people are expected to have diabetes. The authors present the case of patient I.A. 46 years old, male, from urban area, known with type 2 diabetes mellitus insulinotreated, secondary to acute pancreatitis, necrotico-haemorrhagic, operated on antecedents, which is presented in our service accusing spontaneous sensitivity and palpation of the l…
Emerging Standards and the Hybrid Model for Organizing Scientific Events During and After The COVID-19 Pandemic
2020
AbstractSince the beginning of 2020, the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has dramatically influenced almost every aspect of human life. Activities requiring human gatherings have either been postponed, canceled, or held completely virtually. To supplement lack of in-person contact, people have increasingly turned to virtual settings online, advantages of which include increased inclusivity and accessibility and a reduced carbon footprint. However, emerging online technologies cannot fully replace in-person scientific events. In-person meetings are not susceptible to poor Internet connectivity problems, and they provide novel opportunities for socialization, creating new collaboratio…
Jyväskylän yliopiston ylioppilaskunnan hiili- ja luontojalanjälki
2023
