Itinéraire d’un club communautaire polonais : le Club sportif Orion à Montceau-les-Mines (années trente - années soixante)
2013
2015
International audience; This article presents an exploratory study that aims to link social sciences, linguistics and sport. Based on the group-focus enmity concept which focuses on existing depreciations among individuals due to their alleged affiliation to a specific social group, we ask how theses alleged social groups treated like entities are concretely devaluated by using words, especially in highly competitive fields like sport. Even this innovative concept is a fundamentally open concept into which further elements can be integrated, we focus on 5 key elements: racism and xenophobia (1), anti-semitism (2), homophobia (3), sexism (4) and anti-capitalism (5). Even this article can onl…

Adapting to Finland through professional football : perceptions of players and coaches
2014
The present study explores how football migrants (foreign professional football / soccer players) perceive the adaptation process in Finland. Globalization and legislation have made it easier for football players to work abroad. The amount of football migrants in Finland is increasing each year. The internationalization of Finnish football requires study. Successful adaptation has a positive outcome on a migrant, which will increase the chances of personal, and thus in the case of football, team success. This thesis is a qualitative study of five football migrants, who are interviewed based on thematic, semi structured face-to-face conversations in Finland. The following research questions …

A method for calculating the crowding-out effect in sport mega-event impact studies: The 2010 FIFA World Cup
2011
Tourist expenditures constituted the largest part of the economic impact of South Africa's 2010 FIFA Football World Cup. However, limited air transport capacity and increased accommodation prices may have led to crowding-out effects. Until now, crowding-out could only be considered by using econometric modelling based on data of inbound arrival or accommodation statistics. This paper suggests a methodology for measuring the crowding-out effect precisely. It is based on the available statistics in South Africa and is applicable at province level. An important innovation is to distinguish crowding-out from time-switching effects. The paper explains the theoretical framework of crowding-out as…
