The Role of Right Interpretation of Space Charge Distribution for Optimized Design of HVDC Cables
2019
In the field of high-voltage transmission systems, different degradation phenomena affect the reliability of the employed components. In particular, under dc stress, the space charge accumulation phenomenon is believed to be the most responsible of the dielectrics lifetime reduction. To measure the accumulated space charges in flat specimens, the pulsed electro-acoustic (PEA) method is one of the most used techniques. The working principle of the PEA cell is based on the acoustic waves propagation and detection. As is well known, the acoustic waves propagating in different means are partially transmitted and partially reflected. Therefore, the piezoelectric sensor of the PEA cell is subject…
Enhancement of the Multipactor Threshold Inside Nonrectangular Iris
2018
Multipactor breakdown is studied inside the capacitive iris of a rectangular waveguide with a skewed slot along its longitudinal cross section. Both the iris length and height are assumed to be small compared to the electromagnetic wavelength. Therefore, the quasi-static approximation is applied so as to describe the RF field distribution inside the iris gap, whereas a 2-D model is used to analyze the electron motion. The peculiarities of RF field structure are studied using the conformal mapping approach, which shows that the electric field lines can be approximated by circular arcs when the iris length is much larger than its height. The electron motion inside the iris gap is analyzed usi…
Identification of parameters and harmonic losses of a deep-bar induction motor
2017
High frequency harmonics from a frequency converter causes additional losses in a deep-bar induction motor. The harmonics have their own amplitude and phase with respect to the fundamental signal, but the harmonic loss is only dependent on the amplitude of harmonics. A deep-bar induction motor can be modelled by a triple-cage circuit to take skin effect into account. The triple cage circuit having many parameters could be estimated from a small-signal model of the machine by using Differential Evolution. The correctly estimated parameters make the triple-cage circuit valid in a wide range of frequencies. However, the triple-cage circuit is very complicated which makes it difficult to model …

Calculation of the electrostatic field in a dielectric-loaded waveguide due to an arbitrary charge distribution on the dielectric layer
2016
The goal of this paper is to study the electrostatic field due to an arbitrary charge distribution on a dielectric layer in a dielectric-loaded rectangular waveguide. In order to obtain this electrostatic field, the potential due to a point charge on the dielectric layer is solved in advance. The high computational complexity of this problem requires the use of different numerical integration techniques (e.g., Filon, Gauss-Kronrod, Lobatto, …) and interpolation methods. Using the principle of superposition, the potential due to an arbitrary charge distribution on a dielectric layer is obtained by adding the individual contribution of each point charge. Finally, a numerical differentiation o…
Mass calibration of the energy axis in ToF- E elastic recoil detection analysis
2016
We report on procedures that we have developed to mass-calibrate the energy axis of ToF-E histograms in elastic recoil detection analysis. The obtained calibration parameters allow one to transform the ToF-E histogram into a calibrated ToF-M histogram.
Estimation of Photon Flux of the Oxygen Lyman-alpha Line Emitted from the W7-X Plasmas
2020
The low-Z impurities of the magnetic confined fusion plasmas can provide important information about the wall condition and plasma–wall interactions. In order to accomplish this aim, a special spectrometer called “C/O Monitor” was designed for the W7-X experiment. This system is dedicated to measure Lyman-α transitions of four low-Z impurities: carbon (3.4 nm), oxygen (1.9 nm), nitrogen (2.5 nm) and boron (4.9 nm). It is a high throughput and high time resolution spectrometer which allows to measure the line intensities evolution of indicated elements including information of the background (continuum). The designed spectrometer consists of two vacuum chambers positioned nearly horizontally…
Thermal cloaking of complex objects with the neutral inclusion and the coordinate transformation methods
2019
We explore the cloaking of a complex shape by either the neutral inclusion or the transformation thermodynamics (TT) methods. Thin cloaks are built and the heat cloaking efficiency is investigated for both the steady-state and the transient regimes. We show that the neutral inclusion cloak is more efficient in both regimes, though it has the drawback that the thermal conductivity of the cloaked shape must be known. In practice, the neutral inclusion method is more flexible and easier to implement than the coordinate transformation method, especially for complex shapes. We explore the cloaking of a complex shape by either the neutral inclusion or the transformation thermodynamics (TT) methods…
A summary of expressions for central performance parameters of high efficiency solar cell concepts
2019
This work reviews expressions for central performance parameters of various types of PV-concepts when operating at the radiative limit. Some new expressions not published elsewhere are also included. The performance parameters include the short circuit current density, the open circuit voltage, the maximum power density and the optimal voltage. The cell concepts include single junction cells, cells optically coupled to up- and down-converters, intermediate band solar cells and a couple of implementations of multijunction devices. The Lambert W function is used to express the maximum power density.

2017
Effect of delayed reflection on operation of a second-harmonic THz-band gyrotron is studied. Theoretical analysis, numerical calculations and experimental observations for the 0.394 THz FU CW IIB gyrotron are presented.
