Tenectin, a novel extracellular matrix protein expressed during Drosophila melanogaster embryonic development
2006
1567-133X (Print) Journal Article Research Support, Non-U.S. Gov't; During Drosophila embryonic development, various morphogenetic processes require the remodeling of the extracellular matrix. In a previous study, we have identified and characterized a cDNA encoding a novel putative extracellular matrix protein named tenebrin, in the beetle Tenebrio molitor. Here, we examine the expression of the Drosophila ortholog, referred to as Tenectin (Tnc), during embryonic development. Tnc is expressed in the majority of tissues of neuroectodermic origin such as hindgut, foregut, tracheal system, anal plate, and CNS. In the CNS, the Tnc transcript is restricted to a few cells, whereas the protein is…
Cephalic anatomy of Sinentomon erythranum Yin (Protura : Sinentomidae)
1992
Abstract The structure of the head capsule, endoskeletal structures, oral folds, mouthparts, foregut, maxillary and labial glands, and the central nervous system of the Chinese proturan Sinentomon erythranum Yin (Protura : Sinentomidae) have been described. The most significant features are the unusual thickness of the cuticle with numerous serrated lines, the reduction of sutures and the absence of linea ventralis, the simplification of gnathal pieces, and the reduction of the musculature. A comparison with other Protura and Apterygota leads to some morphological and phylogenetical interpretations of the cephalic structures, in particular those concerning the entotrophy.
Expression of engrailed in embryos of a beetle and five dipteran species with special reference to the terminal regions
1994
The engrailed expression in embryos of a beetle, four midges and a fly has been analysed with special reference to the terminal regions. In all six species the segmental expression pattern is very similar but variability occurs in the clypeolabrum, foregut and hindgut. In some cases, segmental engrailed expression seems to be extended into the hind- and/or foregut. The engrailed expression of these species is compared with published data from other insects.
Medikamentöse Therapie bei Karzinoiden des Gastrointestinaltraktes
2001
Carcinoid tumors are rare and slowly growing neuroendocrine tumors of the foregut, midgut and hindgut. Drug therapy is of special importance in patients with inoperable metastasising disease. This palliative therapy is aimed at reduction of the hormone-dependent symptoms and inhibition of tumor growth. Somatostatin analogues, alpha-interferon and various chemotherapeutic agents are used for this purpose. Drug therapy can be supplemented by surgical and radiological intervention through interdisciplinary cooperation of the surgeon, radiologist, endocrinologist and gastroenterologist.
