Este trabajo debate y propone cuáles son los criterios necesarios para establecer un programa de entrenamiento de aprendices de una lengua extranjera (inglés) según los supuestos de las estrategias de aprendizaje como área de estudio, dentro del campo de la adquisición de lenguas extranjeras y segundas lenguas. This work discusses and proposes which are the minimal necessary criteria to establish a training program for learners of a foreign language (English) following the principles of learning strategies as a field of study within the wider field of foreign and second language acquisition.

Foreign language learning is the locus of varying degrees of interference from the learner’s first language (L1), the product of this influence being called interlanguage. As such, it is important to identify those areas of the L1 which could lead to negative transfers into the target language and thus result in imperfect learning. The present paper is concerned with English learning by speakers of Romanian, and analyses possible L1 retentions resulting from the use of English borrowings that diverge grammatically from their original counterparts. This empirical article investigates multimodality in English as a foreign language, both as seen in the use of multimodal texts as artefacts and pedagogical texts for learning, and through an analysis of the multimodal learning designs. We present observations from a year 10 classroom in Norway that worked with the novel The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian (Alexie, 2007). We explore a four-week teaching sequence, asking how different modes were involved when the educator designed literacy events around the novel, and how multimodality is present in the students’ meaning making. Comparison of Pitch Range in Finnish (L1) and Russian (L2)

The aim of the present study is to investigate whether the pitch range of a speaker can vary according to the language he speaks. The hypothesis is tested on Finnish university students studying Russian as a foreign language before and after their stay in Russia. First, the global pitch range (max – min) is determined. Second, the pitch range in different types of utterances (declarative, question, exclamation) is examined by superimposing pitch contours. The results indicate that the learners have a narrower pitch range and a less variable pitch than native speakers both in L1 and L2. In the process of foreign language learning the way in which students perceive the language may have a strong facilitative impact on their language acquisition process, especially when this perception is positive (Despagne, 2010).
