Current L2 self-concept of Finnish comprehensive school students : The role of grades, parents, peers, and society

Furthermore, international motivational research has focused more on ideal and ought-to selves, leaving the current L2 self-concept in the background. In the present study, we attempted to address this gap, exploring what shapes L1 (mother tongue) Finnish students' understanding of themselves as users and learners of L2s. Diplomatic and cultural ties between South Korea and Hungary were established more than 25 years ago. In 1988, the Department of Hungarian Studies was created at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. Abstract Currently, intercultural and heterogeneous realities set the tone in 21st literary education. Therefore, the role of multicultural children's literature plays an essential role in order to reflect this intercultural diversity in Spanish classrooms. In this regard, The Other Side (2001) portrays an African American experience where interaction, communication and negotiation become crucial aspects for their protagonists. In this way, this picture book can be used not only to teach English as a foreign language in primary school, but also to show values like respect, tolerance and partnership.

In the Finnish Studies Programs at two North-American universities, Finnish language students have collaborated online and participated in informal virtual conversational coffee hour meetings. These meetings are offered to complement students’ collaboration conducted during regular language classes. International audience; The main objective of this study is to test the perception of the vowel /y/ among the Polish learners of FLE, as it does not exist in their natural vowel system. We defend the hypothesis that optimal perception conditions can make the identification and acquisition of new sounds more intelligible.; L'objectif principal de cette étude est de tester la perception de la voyelle /y/ chez des apprenants polonais du FLE, celle-ci n'existant pas, en effet, dans leur système vocalique naturel. Nous défendons l'hypothèse selon laquelle des conditions de perception optimales peuvent rendre plus nettes, plus intelligibles, la perception et l'acquisition de sons nouveaux.

Finnish in Toronto: Students and elderly immigrants in a community engaged service learning project

Kuvaamme artikkelissamme yhteisössä toteutettavaa palveluoppimispedagogiikkaa (community engaged service learning pedagogy) Toronton yliopiston suomen kielen ohjelman ja Toronton Suomi-kodin eli suomenkielisen seniorikeskuksen välillä.
