Detecting multiple copies in tampered images

Copy-move forgeries are parts of the image that are duplicated elsewhere into the same image, often after being modified by geometrical transformations. In this paper we present a method to detect these image alterations, using a SIFT-based approach. First we describe a state of the art SIFT-point matching method, which inspired our algorithm, then we compare it with our SIFT-based approach, which consists of three parts: keypoint clustering, cluster matching, and texture analysis. Preliminary results on direct quantitative determination of cocaine in impregnated materials by infrared spectroscopy

Abstract Partial least squares models were built for the direct determination of cocaine in seized impregnated smuggled materials. Measurements are based on the attenuated total reflectance middle infrared spectra (ATR-MIR) and diffuse reflectance spectra in the near range (DR-NIR) obtained directly from the surface of the impregnated materials. The aforementioned procedures offer fast, cheap and environmentally friendly green alternatives to the reference method based on the extraction of the drug and its quantification by gas chromatography. Positron Microscopy Studies of Wear Tracks on a Copper Surface

2014

Positron microscopy was used for studies of defects induced by ball indentation or sliding on the surface of well-annealed copper samples. A focused positron beam of 24.5-keV energy was used to scan the deformed region of the indenter impression, and measurements of the annihilation line parameter were performed. In the case of ball indentation, the measured defect distribution correlates well with the von Mises stress distribution of the Hertz contact and the von Mises yield criterion. For the wear track produced by pin on disc dry sliding, an asymmetric defect distribution near the wear track is observed. It indicates the presence of a tangential force that additionally deforms the sample.

Non-destructive Approach to Multilayer Objects: XRF Analysis of Gilt and Enamelled Metals of the Medieval Cross of Rosciolo

Abstract The penetration of X-rays is usually a limitation to the application of XRF analysis to multilayered materials, however it is possible, by software tools based on the fundamental parameters method, to overcome this problem and estimate thickness and composition of each layer. The cross of Rosciolo is a significant example of multilayer object: it is made of a wood core with attached gilt silver sheets and decorated with enamels. Measurements were carried out in situ and the PyMCA software was employed. The values of gilding thickness, Au/Hg ratios and Cu content in the silver sheets, and enamel's composition are discussed.

A three-dimensional cohesive-frictional grain-boundary micromechanical model for intergranular degradation and failure in polycrystalline materials

Abstract In this study, a novel three-dimensional micro-mechanical crystal-level model for the analysis of intergranular degradation and failure in polycrystalline materials is presented. The polycrystalline microstructures are generated as Voronoi tessellations, that are able to retain the main statistical features of polycrystalline aggregates. Energy Based Characterization of Fatigue Behaviour of Cyclically Unstable Materials

The paper presents a definition of a new energy based parameter which allows to better describe fatigue proprieties of materials, especially cyclically unstable materials in comparison with the Lagoda-Macha parameter. The proposed parameter distinguishes positive and negative work of external force and depends on the sign of the stresses in paths of strain in materials. It is used in laboratory tests for control of a fatigue process on hydraulic stand. A close-loop control system has been equipped with computer program based on MATLAB/Simulink module.

Influence of molecular weight on the creep behavior of undiluted polyisobutylenes

The elongational behavior in constant force experiments has been considered for three samples of commercial polyisobutylene. The results compare favorably with the predictions of two existing non-linear theories as long as the samples deform homogeneously. Some qualitative observations have been made with reference to the “failure point”, i.e., the point where a non-homogeneous deformation begins.
