Inconsistencies in the pozzolanic strength activity index (SAI) for silica fume according to EN and ASTM
2014
Published version of an article in the journal: Materials and Structures. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1617/s11527-014-0457-6 Open Access New supplementary cementitious materials claimed to possess pozzolan properties emerge frequently. This development is driven both by economic and environmental pressures. Properties of new materials are compared with those of materials already well known, such as silica fume. Several test methods are standardized for making such comparisons, regulated by both European (EN) and American (ASTM) standards. Standardization indicates that procedures are secured to make comparisons valid and informative. In this article the sensit…
The effect of defect location on coating fragmentation patterns under biaxial tension
2005
Fragmentation of a coating possessing orthogonal preferential crack propagation directions is modeled for equibiaxial tensile loading. Two plausible cracking scenarios are compared, caused by flaws randomly distributed over the area of the coating or along the coating fragment edges. The two fragmentation scenarios considered are shown to yield qualitatively different fragment patterns.
Using VIS/NIR and IR spectral cameras for detecting and separating crime scene details
2012
Detecting invisible details and separating mixed evidence is critical for forensic inspection. If this can be done reliably and fast at the crime scene, irrelevant objects do not require further examination at the laboratory. This will speed up the inspection process and release resources for other critical tasks. This article reports on tests which have been carried out at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland together with the Central Finland Police Department and the National Bureau of Investigation for detecting and separating forensic details with hyperspectral technology. In the tests evidence was sought after at an assumed violent burglary scene with the use of VTT's 500-900 nm wave…
Creating modern blue pills and red pills
2019
The blue pill is a malicious stealthy hypervisor-based rootkit. The red pill is a software package that is designed to detect such blue pills. Since the blue pill was originally proposed there has been an ongoing arms race between developers that try to develop stealthy hypervisors and developers that try to detect such stealthy hypervisors. Furthermore, hardware advances have made several stealth attempts impossible while other advances enable even more stealthy operation. In this paper we describe the current status of detecting stealth hypervisors and methods to counter them. peerReviewed
An Overview on the Use of miRNAs as Possible Forensic Biomarkers for the Diagnosis of Traumatic Brain Injury
2023
Determining the cause of death is one of the main goals of forensic pathology. However, conditions can occur in which common approaches—external inspection, autopsy, histology, etc.—might not be conclusive. With the advancement of molecular biology, several investigative techniques have been developed over the years, and the application as approaches complementary to routine procedures has proved useful in these cases. In this context, microRNA (miRNA) profiling has attracted increasing interest due to these molecules’ ability to regulate physiological and pathological processes. The evidence of differential miRNA expression in both animal models and human samples of traumatic brain injury …
Dom på overføring til tvungent psykisk helsevern : en kvalitativ studie om erfaringer og utfordringer ansatte innen psykisk helse opplever i forhold …
2016
Masteroppgave psykisk helsearbeid - Universitetet i Agder 2016 Background: The subject of this study is «Sentencing to compulsory mental health care». The choice of subject is sprung from a desire to gain a better knowledge of the challenges related to providing a good service for patients sentenced to compulsory mental health care (TPH). At the same time the study is seeking a more comprehensive understanding of the already known challenges concerning the collaboration between the first and second line services providing for this group of patients. The study's findings are discussed in light of a dialogical perspective of interaction. Selection and method: Qualitative study using participa…
Flow cytometric analysis of chronic and acute toxicity of copper(II) on the marine dinoflagellateAmphidinium carterae
2001
Background Copper(II) is a heavy metal whose levels have increased in some marine ecosystems to polluting levels. Dinoflagellates, an important phytoplankton group, are at the base of aquatic food chains and bioaccumulation of copper by these microorganisms can result in complex ecosystem alterations, so we investigated how copper disturbs those cells. Methods Cytotoxic effects of sublethal and lethal copper concentrations ranging from 4.2 nM (control condition) to 3.13 μM estimated labile copper were studied in batch cultures of Amphidinium carterae. Cell morphology, motility, autofluorescence, and fluorescein diacetate (FDA)–dependent fluorescence generation were evaluated by flow cytomet…
Tekniikoita digitaalisten valokuvien aitouden arvioimiseen
2009
Rapid detection and discrimination of fabaviruses by flow-through hybridisation with genus- and species-specific riboprobes
2015
Viruses cause significant damage in agricultural crops worldwide. Disease management requires sensitive and specific tools for virus detection and identification. Also, detection techniques need to be rapid to keep pace with the continuous emergence of new viral diseases. The genus Fabavirus is composed of five viruses infecting many economically important crops worldwide. This research describes the development of a procedure based on flow-through hybridisation (FTH), which is faster than and as sensitive as conventional hybridisation for virus detection in tissue-prints from infected plants. Six digoxigenin-labelled RNA probes were synthesised with two levels of specificity: (a) five spec…
Digitaalisten kuvaväärennösten tunnistaminen JPEG-pakkausta hyödyntäen
2010
Digitaalisten valokuvien muokkaamisesta on tullut hyvin helppoa ja yleistä, mikä on nostanut esille huolen valokuvien uskottavuudesta. Ongelman ratkaisuksi on esitetty erilaisia tekniikoita, joilla valokuvien aitoutta voidaan arvioida.
