Il volume raccoglie una attenta e multidisciplinare analisi del paesaggio di Pantelleria candidandolo al Registro dei Paesaggi Rurali Storici italiani. Il paesaggio della pietra a secco dell'isola di Pantelleria studiato nelle sue componenti paesistico-ambientali testimonia come le difficili condizioni ambientali abbiano determinato, nel tempo, lo sviluppo di tecniche colturali ingegnose producendo un paesaggio straordinario di grande valenza identitaria. Un attento studio degli aspetti pianificatori evidenzia infine, la necessità del riconoscimento nazionale che possa avviare uno sviluppo rispettoso della tutela dell’unicità del paesaggio pantesco.

I paesaggi dell’agricoltura tradizionale sono generati dell’incontro tra caratteri naturali, forza creativa e ingegno dell’uomo e corrispondono al risultato di un progetto collettivo che ha misurato la necessità del produrre con le risorse native disponibili e con i caratteri dell’ambiente. Parlare, oggi, di paesaggi tradizionali non sempre risulta semplice e altrettanto difficoltoso appare definere una metodologia di identificazione e successiva gestione. Il contributo approfondisce la definizione di una metodologia di analisi multidisciplinare e integrata capace di restituire un quadro regionale e nazionale dei paesaggi agrari tradizionali.
