Linguistic, Contextual, and Experiential Equivalence Issues in the Adaptation of a Performance-Based Assessment of Generic Skills in Higher Education

This qualitative study investigated the various linguistic, contextual, and experiential equivalence issues embedded in a performance-based instrument aimed at assessing generic skills in higher education. A rigorous translation and adaptation process (American English to Finnish) was conducted on one instrument, namely Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA+) International. The data were obtained from cognitive laboratories (n = 13), with think-alouds and follow-up interviews conducted among Finnish undergraduate students. In the study of complex biomedical systems represented by multivariate stochastic processes, such as the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, an issue of great relevance is the description of the system dynamics spanning multiple temporal scales. Verbal effect on memorisation and recognition of Wagner’s leitmotifs

This study aims to investigate the different listening experiences of Richard Wagner’s leitmotifs with and without verbal (external) information provided about the leitmotifs, their meanings and the librettos of the work. In the experiment half of the participants were asked to read and memorise written information about two leitmotifs, and then to listen to the two corresponding leitmotifs several times until they were memorised. Maģistra darba temats ir “Publisko bibliotēku bibliotekāru informācijpratība”. Bibliotekāri ir starpnieki starp informāciju un lietotāju. Bibliotekāru informācijpratībai ir jābūt labā līmenī, lai kvalitatīvi apkalpotu bibliotēkas lietotājus. Līdz šim Latvijā nav veiktu pētījumu par bibliotekāru informācijpratību. Maģistra darba mērķis ir noskaidrot, kāds ir publisko bibliotēku bibliotekāru informācijpratības līmenis, un sniegt ieteikumus tā uzlabošanai. Datu ieguvei izmantotas anketēšanas, intervijas un verbālā uzdevuma metodes. Reliable Outer Bounds for the Dual Simplex Algorithm with Interval Right-hand Side

International audience; In this article, we describe the reliable computation of outer bounds for linear programming problems occuring in linear relaxations derived from the Bernstein polynomials. The computation uses interval arithmetic for the Gauss-Jordan pivot steps on a simplex tableau. The resulting errors are stored as interval right hand sides. Additionally, we show how to generate a start basis for the linear programs of this type. We give details of the implementation using OpenMP and comment on numerical experiments.
When more is less: The other side of artificial intelligence recommendation

Based on consumers' preferences, AI (artificial intelligence) recommendation automatically filters information, which provokes scholars' debate. Supporters believe that by analyzing the consumers' preferences, AI recommendation enables consumers to choose products more quickly and with lower cost. Critics deem that consumers are more easily trapped in information cocoons because of the use of AI recommendation. This reduces the possibility of consumers contacting with a variety of commodities, thus lowering the consumer decision quality. Based on experiments, this paper discusses the moderating role of AI recommendation on the relationship of consumers' preferences and information cocoons. …
Online support for vulnerable consumers: a safe place?

Purpose This paper aims to examine the service experience in an online support community of consumers to understand the nature of social support and how it is experienced and enacted by vulnerable consumers. Design/methodology/approach A netnographic study was conducted to examine vulnerable consumers’ participation in an online support group for weight management. The Linguistic Inquiry Word Count (LIWC) program was used, and additionally data were coded using open coding. A hybrid approach to data analysis was undertaken using inductive and deductive methods.
