Investigating a Virtual Reality Solution for Rehabilitation in a Biomechatronics Lab and Home Environment
2020
Master's thesis in Multimedia and educational technology (MM500) Virtual reality (VR) has emerged as a promising technical tool in physical rehabilitation. VR rehabilitation (VRR) programs, like any rehabilitation, attempt to promote neuroplasticity to improve physical rehabilitation. Research indicates that VRR is beneficial; it facilitates task-specific training, multi-sensory feedback, and diversifying rehabilitation tasks, which can motivate patients. This master thesis investigates a VR solution for a biomechatronics lab and a home-based system. This project was partially a collaboration between masterstudents at Mechatronics and Multimedia and Educational Technology. The Mechatronics …
"De er jo her fysisk.
Using Course Movie Trailers to Affect Intrinsic Motivation
2019
Master's thesis Multimedia and Educational Technology MM500 - University of Agder 2019 This master’s thesis investigates the connection between movie trailer emotions, suchas curiosity, inspiration, interest, and excitement and motivation in order to examine ifa course movie trailer can be utilized to affect students’ intrinsic motivation. Based onexisting theory and research in the field we hypothesised that: "Students who watch acourse movie trailer as a course introduction, will maintain their intrinsic motivationbetter over time, compared to students who attend a traditional course introduction." Totest this hypothesis, we created a course movie trailer in collaboration with the teacher…
Using Mobile Devices as a Supportive Tool to Engage and Interest Young Students in e-Health
2019
Master's thesis Multimedia and Educational Technology MM500 - University of Agder 2019 This thesis explores if mobile devices could be used as a supportive elementto engage and interest young students in e-health by developing a prototypeto handle simulations of e-health scenarios in a serious game setting. Theprototype was to be used as a supportive tool for the research projectHighSchool Students as Co-researchers in eHealth. An iterative design processwas deployed to develop the prototype, going through multiple steps periteration, focusing on design and development, testing, and evaluation. Theresults from all of the testing were examined, and compared with the researchquestions regardi…
Design of a VR application for pilots as a complementary tool for procedure training of Abnormal Operations
2021
Master's thesis in Multimedia and educational technology (MM506) The aviation industry has been amongst the early adopters of VR for educational purposes, even since the very beginning of VR’s technology establishment and throughout its further development. Flight simulators are invaluable as they let pilots and instructors replicate any situation for learning full control over the plane and improve situational awareness without paying the price of life-safety if using an actual aircraft. Abnormal operations and their procedures are a key subject of safety training, where pilots have to understand and memorize particular orders of actions in order to solve a dangerous situation on board. A …
VR formidling av en kunstnerisk opplevelse : Dette prosjektet er en interaktiv kunstinstallasjon laget i VR for Sørlandets Kunstmuseum
2021
Investigating Motion Sickness in Racing Simulators using Virtual Reality and a Motion Platform
2021
Master's thesis in Multimedia and educational technology (MM506) Motion sickness has been a downside of virtual reality since its beginning. According to the "Sensory conflict" theory, simulation sickness and cybersickness often occurs due to the feeling of self-motion. This thesis aimed to investigate if a motion platform could mitigate simulation sickness. By using commercial available motion platform and virtual reality headset, the experiment had three conditions, one without any added motion, one with motion and the last with increased motion. Participants were put in a complete racing set to drive an Edge 6D motion simulator in Asseto Corsa. The participants drove a high-speed car for…
Real-time video transmission in UMTS
2001
Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi 2001 - Høgskolen i Agder, Grimstad Universal Mobile Telecommunication System is denoted as a 3rd cellular system and has been designed with the objective to be a system with global coverage. With the major improvement of in bandwidth capability the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System will be able to support real time multimedia services. This thesis starts with a presentation of the possible video services that can be exploited in third generation cellular systems. Video services are known to be bandwidth consuming and have rigid requirements to the real time requirements. Though the major increase in available bandwidth in the…
A levy for the age of the cloud? : Can a broadband levy be the answer to dealing with the increasing amount of unlicensed cultural content online?
2016
Master's thesis in music management MU501 - University of Agder 2016 The background for the thesis is to look into if a broadband levy may be the answer to the increasing challenges of monetizing unlicensed cultural content on the internet, and if such a levy can work in an age where traditional elements, covered by previous levies, moves over to media that is not covered, such as streaming and cloud storage. To do so, I have used the methodological approach of exploratory research, combined with qualitative interviews of four respondents who has great insight of the music industry from different view points. The first two chapters involves an insight into existing challenges and previously…
Classics in the Cloud : A discussion of the problems of classical music and streaming
2017
Master's thesis Music Management MU501 - University of Agder 2017 Streaming services have become the main method of music consumption the last couple of years, and the classical audience have moved to the cloud as well. This paper aims to uncover some of the issues that classical consumers encounter while using streaming services, what the reasons may be that there are problems, and discussing possible solution to benefit either the connoisseur or the novice listener. It brings a topic there is little literature on into the light, and includes the niche genre, and possibly “the world's oldest” genre, into the academic discourse of the music industry today. My own experience with streaming c…
