Small angle neutron scattering on periodically deformed polymers
1984
Small angle neutron scattering from periodically deformed samples is a useful extension of the methods presently available for the study of molecular dynamics of polymers. In this paper we describe apparatus that has been used to produce large cyclic deformations at frequencies upto 10 Hz and the principles by which data is collected to give spectra corresponding to different states of strain of the sample. Some data on model polydimethylsiloxane networks is given as an illustration of the value of this technique.
Isometries of nilpotent metric groups
2016
We consider Lie groups equipped with arbitrary distances. We only assume that the distance is left-invariant and induces the manifold topology. For brevity, we call such object metric Lie groups. Apart from Riemannian Lie groups, distinguished examples are sub-Riemannian Lie groups and, in particular, Carnot groups equipped with Carnot-Carath\'eodory distances. We study the regularity of isometries, i.e., distance-preserving homeomorphisms. Our first result is the analyticity of such maps between metric Lie groups. The second result is that if two metric Lie groups are connected and nilpotent then every isometry between the groups is the composition of a left translation and an isomorphism.…

Pedagogical Environment for Strengthening of Child Health
2015
Preservation and strengthening of human health problem is acute in the world and in our country. Implementation of the preschool education program, one of the tasks is to strengthen and to protect the child's safety and health. The program does not set, unfortunately, at the child's healthy lifestyle habits. It only indirectly provides life without harmful habits valuable skills and implementation, in co-operation with the children's parents. It also said the aim: to attempt to develop pedagogical environment, preschool educational institution for the definition of a healthy lifestyle and to update its structure.

More About the Musical Expertise of Musically Untrained Listeners
2003
Several behavioral experiments that were designed to compare the abilities of musicians and nonmusicians to process subtle changes in musical structures are surveyed. These experiments deal with different aspects of music perception including the processing of melodic and harmonic structures, the processing of large-scale structures, and implicit learning. In all these experiments, the so-called nonmusician listeners behaved in a very similar way as did highly trained students from music conservatories and music departments. This outcome suggests that when the experimental setting requires participants to process musical structures (in contrast to musical tones), the large audience of untra…
Do Powerful CEOs Have an Impact on Microfinance Performance?
2009
In this study we show that Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) with more powerful CEOs have higher performance variability. A powerful CEO is defined as one that also chairs the board of directors. CEO power is reflected in higher performance variability if CEOs have more latitude of action, i.e. managerial discretion. Managerial discretion can be limited by having stakeholder electives on the board. We find that CEO power only has an effect on MFI performance variability when there are no stakeholder electives on the board. Furthermore, we argue that CEOs in non-profit MFIs have more discretion, because their dual mission implies their CEOs are harder to control. We find that CEO power increa…
Mutations in KATNB1 Cause Complex Cerebral Malformations by Disrupting Asymmetrically Dividing Neural Progenitors
2014
SummaryExome sequencing analysis of over 2,000 children with complex malformations of cortical development identified five independent (four homozygous and one compound heterozygous) deleterious mutations in KATNB1, encoding the regulatory subunit of the microtubule-severing enzyme Katanin. Mitotic spindle formation is defective in patient-derived fibroblasts, a consequence of disrupted interactions of mutant KATNB1 with KATNA1, the catalytic subunit of Katanin, and other microtubule-associated proteins. Loss of KATNB1 orthologs in zebrafish (katnb1) and flies (kat80) results in microcephaly, recapitulating the human phenotype. In the developing Drosophila optic lobe, kat80 loss specificall…
Data analysis method for evaluating dialogic learning
2001
Abstract The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new method of analysing and evaluating dialogic learning. Dialogic learning offers possibilities that have not previously been found in nursing or nursing education, although some nursing researchers have lately become interested in dialogic nursing interaction between nurses and patients. The stages of analysis of dialogic learning have been illustrated by using an example. The data for this illustration were collected by video-taping a planning process where students for a Master’s degree (qualifying them to be nursing instructors in Finland) plan, implement and evaluate a course for nursing students, on the care of terminally ill patie…
