Gain-of-function mutations in IFIH1 cause a spectrum of human disease phenotypes associated with upregulated type I interferon signaling.

2014

The type I interferon system is integral to human antiviral immunity. However, inappropriate stimulation or defective negative regulation of this system can lead to inflammatory disease. We sought to determine the molecular basis of genetically uncharacterized cases of the type I interferonopathy Aicardi-Goutières syndrome, and of other patients with undefined neurological and immunological phenotypes also demonstrating an upregulated type I interferon response. We found that heterozygous mutations in the cytosolic double-stranded RNA receptor gene IFIH1 (MDA5) cause a spectrum of neuro-immunological features consistently associated with an enhanced interferon state. Cellular and biochemica…

Modeling of the role of conformational dynamics in kinetics of the antigen-antibody interaction in heterogeneous phase.

2012

[EN] A novel approach that may potentially be used to study biomolecular interactions including the simultaneous determination of structural and kinetic binding parameters is described in this Article for the first time. It allows a rigid distinction between the possible reaction mechanisms of biomolecular recognition, induced fit and conformational selection. The relative importance of the two pathways is determined not by comparing rate constants but the structural aspects of the interaction instead. So the exact location of antigen molecules with respect to the capture antibody is depicted experimentally, avoiding the use of X-ray crystallography. The proposed pattern is applied to study…

Context-aware intelligent video analysis for the management of smart buildings

2019

To date, computer vision systems are limited to extract digital data of what the cameras "see". However, the meaning of what they observe could be greatly enhanced by environment and human-skills knowledge. In this work, we propose a new approach to cross-fertilize computer vision with contextual information, based on semantic modelization defined by an expert. This approach extracts the knowledge from images and uses it to perform real-time reasoning according to the contextual information, events of interest and logic rules. The reasoning with image knowledge allows to overcome some problems of computer vision such as occlusion and missed detections and to offer services such as people guid…

Digital interventions on healthy lifestyle management: Systematic review

2021

Background Digital interventions have tremendous potential to improve well-being and health care conveyance by improving adequacy, proficiency, availability, and personalization. They have gained acknowledgment in interventions for the management of a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, we are reviewing existing conceptual frameworks, digital intervention approaches, and associated methods to identify the impact of digital intervention on adopting a healthier lifestyle. Objective This study aims to evaluate the impact of digital interventions on weight management in maintaining a healthy lifestyle (eg, regular physical activity, healthy habits, and proper dietary patterns). Methods We conducted …

Metadata-Oriented Language Model in Translingual Retrieval of Digital Data

2015

Translingual retrieval relies on processing a source language to retrieve digital document content in a target language. From the perspective of successful browsing digital catalogues, probability of retrieving the full text document in a language other than the query language is close to zero owning to the fact that it is not only the library collection, but especially a problem of matching the index terms with the query keywords which are assumed to be their translation equivalents. In addition, hardly any digital library system is incorporated with a translation component. As a result, such a matching is rather coincidental. Our approach to the translingual document retrieval problem is …

Formal Concept Analysis of Musicians' Awareness for Musical Expression

2009

This paper proposes a logical framework that visualizes musicians' conceptual structures that are acquired in skill communication processes for musical expression as rhetoric. Generally, these conceptual structures are difficult to show difference between experts and beginners. So, we first carry out a theoretical analysis of musicians' awareness for musical expression using Channel theory and Formal Concept Analysis (FCA). Then, we propose a representation that shows the level of musicians' skills of musical expression. Finally, we discussed about hierarchy of musicians' conceptual structure.

Possibilities of Elementary Musical Lessons for Children Communication Skills

2012

Object of the paper - explore the possibilities of musical lesson for the child for communication skills. The paper was used for theoretical metod - analysis of scientific literature and empirical research method – pedagogical observations of individual and group lessons. Theoretically and practically explored and described possibilities of music lessons for communication skills. The author main conclusions of the study: 1. By participating in the musical play, children are encouraged musical hearing, physical coordination, language development, emotional and social development, communication and independence skills, etc. 2. When creating classesmodels to integrate all the musical creativit…

Appetizer or main dish? Explaining the use of Facebook news posts as a substitute for other news sources

2019

An increasing number of, especially younger, users use Facebook as their primary source for news about political and societal issues. At the same time, research suggests that Facebook use contributes to societal knowledge gaps. Against this background, we investigate the antecedents of using Facebook as a substitute for other news sources. We argue that exposure to news posts on Facebook increases the feeling of being well-informed, regardless of actual knowledge acquisition. This might lead users, especially those with a low need for cognition (NfC), to use Facebook as a substitute for other news sources. We test these assumptions with an online survey (n=390) of German Internet users. Res…
