F-type lectin from serum of the Antarctic teleost fish Trematomus bernacchii (Boulenger, 1902): Purification, structural characterization, and bacter…

2021

Abstract The increasing availability of sequenced genomes has enabled a deeper understanding of the complexity of fish lectin repertoires involved in early development and immune recognition. The teleost fucose-type lectin (FTL) family includes proteins that preferentially bind fucose and display tandemly arrayed carbohydrate-recognition domains (CRDs) or are found in mosaic combinations with other domains. They function as opsonins, promoting phagocytosis and the clearance of microbial pathogens. The Antarctic fish Trematomus bernacchii is a Perciforme living at extremely low temperatures (−1.68 °C) which is considered a model for studying adaptability to the variability of environmental w…

The design and implementation of Neuma, a collaborative Digital Scores Library - Requirements, architecture, and models

2012

This paper presents the design and implementation of the Neuma platform, a digital library devoted to the preservation and dissemination of symbolic music content (scores). Neuma is open to musicologists, musicians, and music publishers. It consists of a repository dedicated to the storage of large collections of digital scores, where users/applications can upload their documents. It also proposes services to publish, annotate, query, transform, and analyze scores. The long-term goal of the project is to enable an open and collaborative space where musician communities will be able to share music in symbolic notation. The project is organized around the French IRPMF institute (BnF–CNRS) whi…

Digenean parasites of the bivalve mollusc Pisidium amnicum in a small river in eastern Finland

1998

The host-parasite relationship between digeneans and a semelparous population of the mollusc. Pisidium amnicum Müller in a small river in eastern Finland was studied during 1992/1993. The parasite prevalence of the population was high. The total prevalence was 45.6% in 1992 (n = 790) and 47.5% in 1993 (n = 160). The dominant digenean, Bunodera luciopercae (34.2% in 1992, 35.0% in 1993), had highest prevalences in July/August and in winter. Two other species, Palaeorchis crassus (7.8% in 1992, 7.5% in 1993) and Phyllodistomum elongatum (4.7% and 5.0%), were rare during the winter. The prevalence of B. luciopercae increased as clams aged, while the other species were most common in middle-siz…

2003

Let Fλ be a family of codimension p foliations defined on a family Mλ of manifolds and let Xλ be a family of compact subsets of Mλ. Suppose that Fλ, Mλ and Xλ are definable in an o-minimal structure and that all leaves of Fλ are closed. Given a definable family Ωλ of differential p-forms satisfaying iZ Ωλ = 0 forany vector field Z tangent to Fλ, we prove that there exists a constant A > 0 such that the integral of on any transversal of Fλ intersecting each leaf in at most one point is bounded by A. We apply this result to prove that p-volumes of transverse sections of Fλ are uniformly bounded.

Aporocotyle mariachristinae n. sp., and A. ymakara VillalbaFernández, 1986 (Digenea: Aporocotylidae) of the pink cusk-eel, Genypterus blacodes (Ophid…

2012

Aporocotyle mariachristinae n. sp. and A. ymakara Villalba & Fernández, 1986 were collected from the bulbus arteriosus and ventral aorta of pink cusk-eels, Genypterus blacodes (Forster, 1801) from Patagonia, Argentina. A. mariachristinae n. sp. can be distinguished from all the species of Aporocotyle by the asymmetrical extension of posterior caeca (right posterior caecum longer, terminating at the area between mid-level of ovary and posterior body end; left posterior caecum shorter, terminating at the area between mid-level of cirrus sac and posterior to reproductive organs), the distribution of spines along the ventro-lateral body margins and the number of testes. The new species clearly …

Helminth communities of owls (strigiformes) indicate strong biological and ecological differences from birds of prey (accipitriformes and falconiform…

2012

We compared the helminth communities of 5 owl species from Calabria (Italy) and evaluated the effect of phylogenetic and ecological factors on community structure. Two host taxonomic scales were considered, i.e., owl species, and owls vs. birds of prey. The latter scale was dealt with by comparing the data here obtained with that of birds of prey from the same locality and with those published previously on owls and birds of prey from Galicia (Spain). A total of 19 helminth taxa were found in owls from Calabria. Statistical comparison showed only marginal differences between scops owls (Otus scops) and little owls (Athene noctua) and tawny owls (Strix aluco). It would indicate that all owl …

Shape matching, shape retrieval

2016

This thesis concerns shape matching and shape retrieval. It describes four contributions to thisdomain. The first is an improvement of the k-means method, in order to find the best partition ofvoxels inside a given shape ; these best partitions permit to match shapes using an optimal matchingin a bipartite graph. The second contribution is the fusion of two descriptors, one local, the otherglobal, with the product rule. The third contribution considers the complete graph, the vertices ofwhich are the shapes in the database and the query. Edges are labelled with several distances, one per descriptor. Then the method computes, with linear programming, the convex combinationof distances which m…

3D shape recognition and matching for intelligent computer vision systems

2018

This thesis concerns recognition and matching of 3D shapes for intelligent computer vision systems. It describes two main contributions to this domain. The first contribution is an implementation of a new shape descriptor built on the basis of the spectral geometry of the Laplace-Beltrami operator; we propose an Advanced Global Point Signature (AGPS). This descriptor exploits the intrinsic structure of the object and organizes its information in an efficient way. In addition, AGPS is extremely compact since only a few eigenpairs were necessary to obtain an accurate shape description. The second contribution is an improvement of the wave kernel signature; we propose an optimized wave kernel …
