2019
International audience; At the time of the conquest of Sicily, ruled by Arabs for two centuries, Roger de Hauteville placed in Troina his first capital (1062), made the town becoming episcopal see. For this purpose, he founded in the town a cathedral church, too. However, the original aspect of the building changed deeply because of earthquakes: collapse and significant alterations occurred between the 15th and 18th centuries, causing the current architectural form. In this paper, thanks to the study of sources, the direct analysis of the building and the interpretation of the new acquired informations, some aspects of building's architectural history are clarified; in addition, a new hypot…
LA PERVIVENCIA DE LOS IDEALES DE CABALLERÍA EN LA IMAGEN DE PODER DE LOS PRIMEROS TUDOR
2023

Biblical references in catecheses about the Holy Mass by Cyril of Jerusalem
2022
Abstract Cyril of Jerusalem is one of the very important witnesses of faith in the East in the fourth century. He is the author of the Catecheses, which contain the content of the catechumenal and mystagogical teaching in Jerusalem. They are an excellent example of how to transmit Christian doctrine to candidates for Christianity and confirm it in the newly baptized. However, the basic method used by Cyril to convey his message is the use of biblical texts. The present study will show the motivation for using biblical references in two mystagogical catecheses on the Eucharist, i.e. Catechesis 22 and Catechesis 23. Their author emphasizes the formation of deep faith and Christian formation o…

The last century of the Chora Monastery: a new look at the tomb monuments
2021
Abstract The present article re-examines the tomb monuments in the parekklesion and the outer narthex of the main church of the Chora monastery, which are generally thought to date from the early Palaiologan period. Based on the analysis of the iconography and style of the frescoes adorning the tombs, it is suggested that some of the burials should be re-dated at least a few decades later. The frescoes in the lunette of the Tomb of Michael Tornikes (Tomb D) appear to have been executed shortly after 1350 and the decoration of Tombs C and E must date from around the same time. The portraits in Tombs F and G date from the 15th century. The epigraphic evidence and the images illustrate the con…
