ABSTRACT: In this study I analyze a group of books structured around a variant of the classical emblem based upon an illustrious personage, in which a portrait serves as the pictura and the name constitutes the motto. My purpose is to introduce what I consider to be a subgenre of emblematic literature and highlight some of its major works. Las pinturas alegórico-mitológicas del palacio Palmerola de Barcelona y su relación con Cesare Ripa

ABSTRACT: This study unveils the meaning of the allegorical-mythological murals, shaped like false sculptures, which frame the scenes of a historical-familial nature decorating the salon of the Palmerola Palace in Barcelona. They were painted at the end of the XVIIIth century by Pedro Pablo Montaña, whose primary literary source was the Iconologyby Cesare Ripa. Based on this text, the painter builds the visual language, whose fidelity to the source is a paradigmatic example of utilization of this source. My research also results in the correction of previous misinterpretations, thus offering a richer and more comprehensive view of the pictorial ensemble.

ABSTRACT: In the year 1585 the flemish painter Hans Bol made the series of twelve drawings with evangelical themes related with the twelve months of the year and the twelve signs of the zodiac. That same year the engraver Adriaen Collaert engraved in copper the series with the title of Emblemata evangelica ad XII signa coelestia sive totidem ani menses accommodata, which is what served to give diffusion to the work. Fue en diciembre de 2009 cuando vio la luz el primer número de la revista IMAGO. El proyecto, liderado por el presidente de la SEE, Rafael García Mahíques, contó con los consejos y sugerencias de Víctor Infantes, quien ya acudió a la reunión anual de la SEE de 2008, celebrada en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, con el borrador de un número 0 que finalmente se transformó en el número 1 de la publicación. Su compromiso con esta revista quedó reforzado con la publicación de dos trabajos en la primera y segunda entrega, y en su abierta disponibilidad para acudir a cualquier llamada.
