Effect of dual blockade of renin-angiotensin system on TGF beta 1 and left ventricular structure and function in hypertensive patients

2007

The effects of 24 weeks losartan and ramipril treatment, both alone and in combination, on left ventricular mass (LVM), circulating transforming growth factor b1(TGFb1), procollagen type I (PIP) and III (PIIIP), havebeen evaluated in hypertensive (HT) patients. A total of 57 HT with stage 1 and 2 essential hypertension were included. After 4 weeks run in, a randomized double blind, three arms, double dummy, independent trial was used. All HT patients were randomly allocated to three treatment arms consisting of losartan (50 mg/daily),ramipril (5 mg/ daily) and combined (losartan 50 mg/daily plus ramipril 5 mg/daily) for 24 weeks. TGFb1, PIP and PIIIP, LVM, LVM/h 2.7 and other echocardiograph…

Cancer‐associated venous thromboembolism: Treatment and prevention with rivaroxaban

2020

Abstract Cancer‐associated venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a frequent, potentially life‐threatening event that complicates cancer management. Anticoagulants are the cornerstone of therapy for the treatment and prevention of cancer‐associated thrombosis (CAT); factor Xa–inhibiting direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs; apixaban, edoxaban, and rivaroxaban), which have long been recommended for the treatment of VTE in patients without cancer, have been investigated in this setting. The first randomized comparisons of DOACs against low‐molecular‐weight heparin for the treatment of CAT indicated that DOACs are efficacious in this setting, with findings reflected in recent updates to published guidan…

Smad7 controls resistance of colitogenic T cells to regulatory T cell-mediated suppression.

2008

Background & Aims Foxp3-expressing regulatory T cells (Tregs) play a key role in the maintenance of the gut immune homeostasis, and an intact transforming growth factor (TGF)-β signaling is required for their function. In inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the TGF-β signaling is impaired because of high expression of the inhibitory molecule Smad7. Although no intrinsic defects in Tregs function have been shown in IBD, it is still unknown whether colitogenic T cells are susceptible to Treg-mediated suppression. In this study, we have investigated whether IBD mucosal CD4+ T cells are resistant to Tregs and whether Smad7 is involved in this process. Methods IBD lamina propria mononuclear cells …

Performing arts and mediation technology in the period of lockdown

2021

Advancements in digital technologies have become novel ways to enrich communication, expression, and transmission of arts knowledge. Technology is increasingly implemented in the performance space, as a source of inspiration for artists. Especially in this period of lockdown, mediation technology has turned out to be an essential tool for different aspects of social life, as in performing arts. With venues, schools and artistic activities closed, performers, students and spectators have been obliged to keep connecting in remote conditions. This article wants to retrace the aesthetic impact of mediation technology in performing arts during this period of lockdown by focusing on the aspects t…

The goal is to illustrate the potentialities as well as the challenges of the arttechnology encounter by underlining the transformation of the interaction with and perception of the performance space in remote conditions and in distance learning. The implementation of digital technologies is contributing to the evolution of the performing arts sector by facilitating futuristic approaches. 402 412mediation technology has turned out to be an essential tool for different aspects of social lifeas in performing arts. The Sound of Sadness : The Effect of Performers' Emotions on Audience Ratings

2013

Very few studies have investigated the effect of performers’ felt emotions on the audience perception of their performances. Does it matter what a performer feels or thinks about when performing? To investigate this, we asked four violinists to play the same musical phrase in response to three different instructions. The first in-struction was to focus on the technical aspects of their playing. The second instruction was to give an expres-sive performance. Following a sadness-inducing mood induction task, the third instruction was to play while focusing on their felt emotions. High quality audio and motion-capture recordings were made of all perfor-mances. Subsequently, motion-capture anima…

Gamma Oscillations in the Temporal Pole Reflect the Contribution of Approach and Avoidance Motivational Systems to the Processing of Fear and Anger W…

2022

Prior reports suggest that affective effects in visual word processing cannot be fully explained by a dimensional perspective of emotions based on valence and arousal. In the current study, we focused on the contribution of approach and avoidance motivational systems that are related to different action components to the processing of emotional words. To this aim, we compared frontal alpha asymmetries and brain oscillations elicited by anger words associated with approach (fighting) motivational tendencies, and fear words that may trigger either avoidance (escaping), approach (fighting) or no (freezing) action tendencies. The participants’ task was to make decisions about approaching or dis…
