New Developments in Quantum Algorithms

2010

In this survey, we describe two recent developments in quantum algorithms. The first new development is a quantum algorithm for evaluating a Boolean formula consisting of AND and OR gates of size N in time O(\sqrt{N}). This provides quantum speedups for any problem that can be expressed via Boolean formulas. This result can be also extended to span problems, a generalization of Boolean formulas. This provides an optimal quantum algorithm for any Boolean function in the black-box query model. The second new development is a quantum algorithm for solving systems of linear equations. In contrast with traditional algorithms that run in time O(N^{2.37...}) where N is the size of the system, the …

A Vector Approach to Euler's Line of a Triangle

1992

Among the many interesting properties that triangles possess there is one that quickly attracts our curiosity and stays easily in our mind: The centroid, circumcentre and orthocentre all lie in a common line (Euler's Line). An elementary simple proof can be obtained using metric and affine properties of the points involved, [1]. Our aim here is to illustrate a proof using vectors. We identify points in the plane with their position vectors. It is easy to see that the centroid G of the triangle ABC is given by the identity

Contrôle quantique adiabatique : technique de passage adiabatique parallèle et systèmes dissipatifs

2011

The first part of this thesis is devoted to the theoretical analysis of adiabatic processes allowing the transfer of population from an initial state to a target state of a quantum system. The strategy of parallel adiabatic passage, in which the coupling parameters are specifically designed to optimize the adiabatic passage corresponding to parallel eigenvalues at all times, allows one to combine the energetically efficiency of pi-pulse and related strategies with the robustness of standard adiabaticpassage. The second part of this thesis concerns the effects of the dissipation in adiabatic passage. The non-adiabatic transition probability formula of a two state system with dissipation is e…

Homeomorphisms of Finite Distortion

2013

In this chapter we establish the optimal regularity of the inverse mapping in higher dimensions and optimal Sobolev regularity for composites. Moreover, we establish optimal moduli of continuity for mappings in our classes and we discuss orientation preservation and approximation of Sobolev homeomorphisms.

Comparing metoclopramide electrotransport kinetics in vitro and in vivo.

2010

The purpose of this work was to investigate the transdermal iontophoretic delivery of metoclopramide and to determine (i) the dependence of electrotransport on current density and drug concentration, (ii) the relative contributions of electromigration and electroosmosis and (iii) the feasibility of administering therapeutic amounts of drug, using a drug-sparing iontophoretic configuration. Iontophoretic delivery of metoclopramide (MCL) across dermatomed porcine ear skin was investigated in vitro as a function of concentration (10, 20, 40, 80 and 100mM) and current density (0.1, 0.2 and 0.3mAcm(-2)) using vertical flow-through diffusion cells. In vivo studies were performed in Wistar rats (4…

Unraveling the behavior of oral drug products inside the human gastrointestinal tract using the aspiration technique: History, methodology and applic…

2020

Fluid sampling from the gastrointestinal (GI) tract has been applied as a valuable tool to gain more insight into the fluids present in the human GI tract and to explore the dynamic interplay of drug release, dissolution, precipitation and absorption after drug product administration to healthy subjects. In the last twenty years, collaborative initiatives have led to a plethora of clinical aspiration studies that aimed to unravel the luminal drug behavior of an orally administered drug product. The obtained drug concentration-time profiles from different segments in the GI tract were a valuable source of information to optimize and/or validate predictive in vitro and in silico tools, freque…

5PSQ-096 Hazard vulnerability analysis to evaluate the risk of drug shortages according to therapeutic class

2020

Background and importance Drug shortages are a critical challenge for the public health system, as highlighted by EAHP’s position paper. They have a negative impact on quality and efficiency of patient care. Aim and objectives The aim of our study was the application of a revised hazard vulnerability analysis (HVA) to assess which therapeutic classes of drugs are at greatest risk of shortages. Material and methods In September 2019, we analysed the drugs present in our hospital therapeutic formulary and checked which ones were included in the Italian Medicines Agency shortages list: 43 drugs were found. For each drug, we assigned a score using a revised HVA which consists of three macro are…

Gluon mass generation in the presence of dynamical quarks

2013

We study in detail the impact of dynamical quarks on the gluon mass generation mechanism, in the Landau gauge, for the case of a small number of quark families. As in earlier considerations, we assume that the main bulk of the unquenching corrections to the gluon propagator originates from the fully dressed quark-loop diagram. The nonperturbative evaluation of this diagram provides the key relation that expresses the unquenched gluon propagator as a deviation from its quenched counterpart. This relation is subsequently coupled to the integral equation that controls the momentum evolution of the effective gluon mass, which contains a single adjustable parameter; this constitutes a major impr…
