Phase information of time-frequency transforms as a key feature for classification of atrial fibrillation episodes

[EN] Patients suffering from atrial fibrillation can be classified into different subtypes, according to the temporal pattern of the arrhythmia and its recurrence. Nowadays, clinicians cannot differentiate a priori between the different subtypes, and patient classification is done afterwards, when its clinical course is available. In this paper we present a comparison of classification performances when differentiating paroxysmal and persistent atrial fibrillation episodes by means of support vector machines. Abstract A new analytical method was established and validated for the analysis of eighteen halogenated flame retardants (HFRs)in food products. This thesis presents a number of innovative techniques that can be used in the analysis of econometric data sequences in which the underlying components can be identified by their spectral signatures. To present these techniques intelligibly requires the preparatory expositions of Fourier analysis and of the theory of linear filtering that are presented in Chapters 2 and 3. An attempt to realise the constrained search approach in the density functional theory

Abstract The problem of reconstruction of wave functions from a given electron density is considered. A reformulation of the problem is proposed which is based on the Fourier transform. Arising mathematical problems are studied, namely, the properties of reduced spatial densities and their Fourier images are obtained, which follow from known properties of the wave functions. The proposed approach may provide a practical implementation of the Constrained Search Approach to the DFT.

Ability of short-time Fourier transform method to detect transient changes in vagal effects on hearts: a pharmacological blocking study.

Conventional spectral analyses of heart rate variability (HRV) have been limited to stationary signals and have not allowed the obtainment of information during transient autonomic cardiac responses. In the present study, we evaluated the ability of the short-time Fourier transform (STFT) method to detect transient changes in vagal effects on the heart. Abstract MINDO-3 molecular orbital calculations with full geometry optimization have been carried out on 1-acetylcyclohexene (ACH) in order to estimate the rotational barrier for the acetyl group, and to localize the less energetic conformation. MNDO calculations have also been carried out for comparative purposes. Both methods point to the non-delocalized structure with the two π-clouds perpendicular to the less energetic conformation. A decomposition of the barrier energy by means of Fourier analysis is made in order to characterize the contributions to the barrier. Extension of a Schur theorem to groups with a central factor with a bounded section rank

Abstract A well-known result reported by Schur states that the derived subgroup of a group is finite provided its central factor is finite. Here we show that if the p-section rank of the central factor of a locally generalized radical group is bounded, then so is the p-section rank of its derived subgroup. We also give an explicit expression for this bound.

Nonlinear Nonhomogeneous Robin Problems with Almost Critical and Partially Concave Reaction

We consider a nonlinear Robin problem driven by a nonhomogeneous differential operator, with reaction which exhibits the competition of two Caratheodory terms. One is parametric, $$(p-1)$$-sublinear with a partially concave nonlinearity near zero. The other is $$(p-1)$$-superlinear and has almost critical growth. Exploiting the special geometry of the problem, we prove a bifurcation-type result, describing the changes in the set of positive solutions as the parameter $$\lambda >0$$ varies.
