Simplified model of mean double step (MDS) in human body movement

In this paper we present a simplified and useful model of the human body movement based on the full gait cycle description, called the Mean Double Step (MDS). It enables the parameterization and simplification of the human movement. Furthermore it allows a description of the gait cycle by providing standardized estimators to transform the gait cycle into a periodical movement process. Extreme miniaturization of on-demand optical devices such as ultrathin lenses is currently leading to significant advancements in manufacturing novel materials and nanotechnologies. Flexibility and tunability of engineered layouts enable efficient integration of complex photonic modules. Reconstruction Improvement in Integral Fourier Holography by Micro-Scanning Method

Although integral holography has many promising advantages in the field of 3D imaging, the resolution of reconstructed holographic image is still limited by the insufficient information captured. To improve the reconstruction quality, an integral Fourier holographic imaging method based on micro-scanning of the micro-lens array is proposed in this paper. The iterative object symmetry transform

This paper introduces a new operator named the Iterated Object Transform that is computed by combining the Object Symmetry Transform with the morphological operator erosion. This new operator has been applied on both binary and gray levels images showing the ability to grasp the internal structure of a digital object. We present some experiments on real images in face analysis.

Classification of Chitinozoa (Llandoverian, Canada) Using Image Analysis

Chitinozoa (Llandoverian, Canada) were studied using image analysis. After digitalization of the objects, shape parameters were calculated. The boundary of each fossil was then traced by a vector centred at the centroid for Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). Results of the two methods were used as variables in a hierarchical cluster analysis in order to group the samples. These results show that Chitinozoa can be significantly classified in terms of taxa using independent shape parameters obtained by image analysis.

Merging the transform step and the quantization step for Karhunen-Loeve transform based image compression

Transform coding is one of the most important methods for lossy image compression. The optimum linear transform - known as Karhunen-Loeve transform (KLT) - was difficult to implement in the classic way. Now, due to continuous improvements in neural network's performance, the KLT method becomes more topical then ever. We propose a new scheme where the quantization step is merged together with the transform step during the learning phase. The new method is tested for different levels of quantization and for different types of quantizers. Experimental results presented in the paper prove that the new proposed scheme always gives better results than the state-of-the-art solution.

Fractional-Fourier-transform calculation through the fast-Fourier-transform algorithm.

A method for the calculation of the fractional Fourier transform (FRT) by means of the fast Fourier transform (FFT) algorithm is presented. The process involves mainly two FFT’s in cascade; thus the process has the same complexity as this algorithm. The method is valid for fractional orders varying from −1 to 1. Scaling factors for the FRT and Fresnel diffraction when calculated through the FFT are discussed.

Natural oxygenation of Champagne wine during ageing on lees: A metabolomics picture of hormesis

International audience; The oxygenation of Champagne wine after 4 and 6 years of aging on lees in bottle was investigated by FTICR-MS and UPLC-Q-TOF-MS. Three levels of permeability were considered for the stoppers, ranging from 0.2 to 1.8 mg/L/year of oxygen transfer rate. Our results confirmed a good repeatability of ultrahigh resolution FTICR-MS, both in terms of m/z and coefficient of variation of peak intensities among biological replicates. Vintages appeared to be the most discriminated features, and metabolite annotations suggested that the oldest wines (2006) were characterized by a higher sensitivity towards oxygenation. Hyper-reticulated calixarene polymers: a new example of entirely synthetic nanosponge materials

New calixarene-based nanosponges (CaNSs), i.e., hyper-reticulated polymers constituted by calixarene monomer units joined by means of bis(1,2,3-trialzolyl)alkyl linkers, were synthesized, characterized and subjected to preliminary tests to assess their supramolecular absorption abilities towards a set of suitable organic guests, selected as pollutant models. Polyaminoazide mixtures for the synthesis of pH-responsive calixarene nanosponges

Two mixtures of polyaminoazides were synthesized by a nucleophilic displacement strategy providing no separation of the components. The mixtures were adequately characterized by means of combined HR-ESIMS, FTIR and NMR techniques and, despite their complexity, they were successfully used to accomplish the subsequent preparation of pH-sensitive calixarene hyper-reticulated nanosponge materials. The desired responsivity to pH variations of the nanosponges obtained was verified by means of absorption tests on a set of organic pollutant model molecules.
