Fractional Fourier transform dual random phase encoding of time-varying signals

Optical techniques have shown great potential in the field of information security to encode high-security images. Among several established methods, a double-random phase encryption technique (DRPE) for encoding a primary image into stationary white noise was developed by using the analogy between Fresnel diffraction patterns and the fractional Fourier transform (FrFT-DRPE). In this case, additional keys are obtained through the knowledge of the fractional orders of the FrFTs. Texture Classification with Generalized Fourier Descriptors in Dimensionality Reduction Context: An Overview Exploration

In the context of texture classification, this article explores the capacity and the performance of some combinations of feature extraction, linear and nonlinear dimensionality reduction techniques and several kinds of classification methods. The performances are evaluated and compared in term of classification error. In order to test our texture classification protocol, the experiment carried out images from two different sources, the well known Brodatz database and our leaf texture images database.

Fast Image Mosaicing for Panoramic Face Recognition

In this article, we present some development results of a system that performs mosaicing (or mosaicking) of panoramic faces. Our objective is to study the feasibility of panoramic face construction in real-time. To do so, we built a simple acquisition system composed of 5 standard cameras which, together, can take simultaneously 5 views of a face at different angles. Then, we chose an easily hardware-achievable algorithm, consisting of successive linear transformations, in order to compose a panoramic face from these 5 views. Phase Fourier vector model for scale invariant three-dimensional image detection.

A scale invariant 3D object detection method based on phase Fourier transform (PhFT) is addressed. Three-dimensionality is expressed in terms of range images. The PhFT of a range image gives information about the orientations of the surfaces in the 3D object. When the object is scaled, the PhFT becomes a distribution multiplied by a constant factor which is related to the scale factor. Then 3D scale invariant detection can be solved as illumination invariant detection process. Several correlation operations based on vector space representation are applied. Results show the tolerance of detection method to scale besides discrimination against false objects.

Real filter based on Mellin radial harmonics for scale-invariant pattern recognition.

Several theoretical and experimental studies are developed in order to simplify the construction of filters based on Mellin radial harmonics (MRH) for scale-invariant pattern recognition. A real filter based on MRH is designed. The impulse response of the filter is a hermitic function, obtained by a suitable modification of a MRH component. This real filter has the same scale invariance as the conventional complex MRH filters, with the main advantage of its simplicity. Both computer simulations and optical experiments are presented.

Parallel fractional correlation: an optical implementation

An optical setup to obtain all the fractional correlations of a one-dimensional input in a single display is implemented. The system works as a multichannel parallel correlator for a continuous set of fractional orders and presents a variable shift variance. Some experimental results together with computer simulations are performed to illustrate the performance of our proposal.

The trapping condition and a new instability of the ion motion in the ion cyclotron resonance trap

Abstract In analogy to the critical mass, m crit , a critical voltage, U crit , (and a general trapping parameter, π trap ) is defined, above which the ion motion in an ion cyclotron resonance (ICR) trap is unstable and the ions are lost from the trap. The theoretical values for the critical voltage are confirmed by experimental results. Singly charged gold cluster ions, Au n − , of several sizes, n = 50, 60, 76, 100, 110, and 145 (the latter corresponding to an ion mass of 28 560 u), were injected into an ICR trap, stored, and detected by axial ejection and single ion counting using a microchannel plate detector. FTICR analysis of the magnetic trapping mode of the electron beam ion trap

Abstract An electron beam ion trap is used to produce and confine highly-charged atomic ions in an energetic electron beam (electron trapping mode). After switching off the electron beam the ions remain trapped due to the external magnetic and electric fields. We have investigated the properties of this magnetic trapping mode by use of Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry. We found that the number of highly charged ions and the relative species abundance is nearly the same just before and just after turning off the electron beam. Direct Measurement of the Free Cyclotron Frequency of a Single Particle in a Penning Trap

A measurement scheme for the direct determination of the free cyclotron frequency ${\ensuremath{\nu}}_{c}$ of a single particle stored in a Penning trap is described. The method is based on the dressed states of mode coupling. In this novel measurement scheme both radial modes of the single trapped particle are simultaneously coupled to the axial oscillation mode.
