The Calderon problem in transversally anisotropic geometries
2016
We consider the anisotropic Calderon problem of recovering a conductivity matrix or a Riemannian metric from electrical boundary measurements in three and higher dimensions. In the earlier work \cite{DKSaU}, it was shown that a metric in a fixed conformal class is uniquely determined by boundary measurements under two conditions: (1) the metric is conformally transversally anisotropic (CTA), and (2) the transversal manifold is simple. In this paper we will consider geometries satisfying (1) but not (2). The first main result states that the boundary measurements uniquely determine a mixed Fourier transform / attenuated geodesic ray transform (or integral against a more general semiclassical…
Annihilating sets for the short time Fourier transform
2010
Abstract We obtain a class of subsets of R 2 d such that the support of the short time Fourier transform (STFT) of a signal f ∈ L 2 ( R d ) with respect to a window g ∈ L 2 ( R d ) cannot belong to this class unless f or g is identically zero. Moreover we prove that the L 2 -norm of the STFT is essentially concentrated in the complement of such a set. A generalization to other Hilbert spaces of functions or distributions is also provided. To this aim we obtain some results on compactness of localization operators acting on weighted modulation Hilbert spaces.
Numerical study of the transverse stability of the Peregrine solution
2020
We generalise a previously published approach based on a multi-domain spectral method on the whole real line in two ways: firstly, a fully explicit 4th order method for the time integration, based on a splitting scheme and an implicit Runge--Kutta method for the linear part, is presented. Secondly, the 1D code is combined with a Fourier spectral method in the transverse variable both for elliptic and hyperbolic NLS equations. As an example we study the transverse stability of the Peregrine solution, an exact solution to the one dimensional nonlinear Schr\"odinger (NLS) equation and thus a $y$-independent solution to the 2D NLS. It is shown that the Peregrine solution is unstable against all…
FIA—FT—IR determination of ibuprofen in pharmaceuticals
1992
A method has been developed for the determination of Ibuprofen (2-[4-isobutylphenyl]-propionic acid) in pharmaceuticals by FT-IR, using the carbonyl band which this compound presents at 1710 cm(-1) in carbon tetrachloride solutions. Samples are dissolved in carbon tetrachloride. In this solvent the excipients are not soluble and so the drug can be directly determined without any additional treatment. The use of a simple FIA manifold permits one to carry out this analysis with a low consumption of reagent and the FT-IR provides a continuous monitoring of the spectral base-line which permits an accurate determination of the maximum in the absorbance band. Also, the FIA system permits easy and…
A Linear Cost Algorithm to Compute the Discrete Gabor Transform
2010
In this paper, we propose an alternative efficient method to calculate the Gabor coefficients of a signal given a synthesis window with a support of size much lesser than the length of the signal. The algorithm uses the canonical dual of the window (which does not need to be calculated beforehand) and achieves a computational cost that is linear with the signal length in both analysis and synthesis. This is done by exploiting the block structure of the matrices and using an ad hoc Cholesky decomposition of the Gabor frame matrix.
Prediction of alkaline earth elements in bone remains by near infrared spectroscopy.
2016
An innovative methodological approach has been developed for the prediction of the mineral element composition of bone remains. It is based on the use of Fourier Transform Near Infrared (FT-NIR) diffuse reflectance measurements. The method permits a fast, cheap and green analytical way, to understand post-mortem degradation of bones caused by the environment conditions on different skeletal parts and to select the best preserved bone samples. Samples, from the Late Roman Necropolis of Virgen de la Misericordia street and En Gil street located in Valencia (Spain), were employed to test the proposed approach being determined calcium, magnesium and strontium in bone remains and sediments. Coef…
A low cost and easy re-configurable instrument for power quality survey
2004
In this document the development of a low cost and user friendly PC-based instrument for power quality measurement is proposed, according to IEC 61000-4-7 and standard IEC 61000-4-30. It is an easily re-configurable instrument able to measure harmonics, interharmonics and amplitude disturbances and supply unbalance. In order to verify its accuracy, the instrument has been tested according standard test procedures, by means of a built-up calibration test bench.
New method of grain-boundary extraction by directional optimal filtering: application to estimating creep in metals
2002
It is economically important for manufacturers of high- temperature machines to be able to measure creep so they can predict residual service life more accurately. This paper describes and refines an image analysis method for evaluating creep in laboratory test pieces. It is a preliminary study of how to extract relevant information for creep mea- surement by counting cavities. Sample preparation for quantification by image analysis is an important step determining the further development of the image analysis technique. Grain-boundary extraction, which in- volves directional information, is the major problem to be solved before measurement can be automated. The search for a crest-line extr…
Controlled Release of Metformin Hydrochloride from Core-Shell Nanofibers with Fish Sarcoplasmic Protein
2019
Ficai, Anton/0000-0002-1777-0525; Karademir, Betul/0000-0003-1762-0284 WOS:000503463400074 PubMed ID: 31658758 Background and Objectives: A coaxial electrospinning technique was used to produce core/shell nanofibers of a polylactic acid (PLA) as a shell and a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) containing metformin hydrochloride (MH) as a core. Materials and Methods: Fish sarcoplasmic protein (FSP) was extracted from fresh bonito and incorporated into nanofiber at various concentrations to investigate the influence on properties of the coaxial nanofibers. The morphology, chemical structure and thermal properties of the nanofibers were studied. Results: The results show that uniform and bead-free struct…
Adsorption of functionalized biomembrane vesicles on crystalline surfaces monitored by FTIR- and Surface Enhanced FTIR Spectroscopy
1997
A special class of integral membrane proteins are the ion channels. To use them for technical purposes they have to be transferred with their lipid surrounding onto artificial materials, i.e. crystals. In this study we used vesicles containing the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) and porin. The first allows the ligand gated flow and the second allows the voltage gated flow of cations across the membrane. We used ATR-FTIR spectroscopy and surface enhanced FTIR techniques (SEIRA) to monitor the direct contact of the vesicles with the crystal.
