An ITS-RFLP method to identify black Aspergillus isolates responsible for OTA contamination in grapes and wine
2006
Ochratoxigenic mycobiota in grapes from representative wine regions in Valencia was identified. Black aspergilli were predominant among the different Aspergillus spp. isolated. Restriction digestion analysis of the ITS products was tested as a rapid method to identify isolates of black Aspergillus species from grapes. Restriction endonuclease digestion of the ITS products using the endonucleases HhaI, NlaIII and RsaI, distinguished five types of restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) corresponding to Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus tubingensis, Aspergillus carbonarius and Aspergillus aculeatus species. In addition, a new RFLP type in the A. niger aggregate was identified. The fragme…
Molecular identification and characterization of wine yeasts isolated from Tenerife (Canary Island, Spain)
2007
Aims: The present study was aimed at the identification, differentiation and characterization of indigenous yeasts isolated from Tenerife vineyards (viticulture region that has never been characterized before). Microbiota were studied from 14 samples taken during fermentations carried out in the 2002 vintage, from 11 wineries belonging to five wine regions on Tenerife Island. Methods and Results: Yeasts’ strains were identified and characterized through restriction analysis of the 5·8S-internal transcribed spacer region and the mitochondrial DNA. At the beginning of alcoholic fermentation, 26 yeast species were found, where 14 species were present in significant frequencies in only one sa…
Characterization of wine yeast strains of the Saccharomyces genus on the basis of molecular markers: Relationships between genetic distance and geogr…
1996
Summary We identify and characterize 31 Saccharomyces strains from different wine regions, deposited at the Spanish Type Culture Collection, according to mtDNA restriction patterns and chromosomal profiles. By using this kind of information we analyze the correlation between genetic distances and ecological or geographical factors by means of a cluster analysis, assessed by an analysis of the molecular variance (AMOVA). From these analyses, red wine strains are significantly grouped according to their geographic origin, independently of the wine type and the grapevine cultivar, and white wine strians according to ecological factors (wine type of grapevine cultivars). This study also confirm…
Experiments in Non-Coherent Post-editing
2017
Market pressure on translation productivity joined with technological innovation is likely to fragment and decontextualise translation jobs even more than is cur-rently the case. Many different translators increasingly work on one document at different places, collaboratively working in the cloud. This paper investigates the effect of decontextualised source texts on behaviour by comparing post-editing of sequentially ordered sentences with shuffled sentences from two different texts. The findings suggest that there is little or no effect of the decontextualised source texts on behaviour.
Spatial fragmentation of, and US support for, the main multilateral institutions of the western order
2017
The growth of China-led minilateral initiatives mostly of a regional character has challenged the main multilateral institutions of the Western order and, ultimately, US authority. Faced with a progressive delegitimation of the institutional architecture that it promoted after World War II, the US, under the Obama administration, has acted to defend the existing main multilateral institutions of the order (UN, IMF, WB and WTO), attributing them with a strategic role. More than being radical, though, the reforms enacted have been incremental and pragmatic, but always imperfect. More importantly, they have not altered US influence, which is exercised mostly through informal means. This, howev…
Importance of dispersal and thermal environment for mycorrhizal communities: lessons from Yellowstone National Park
2011
International audience; The relative importance of dispersal and niche restrictions remains a controversial topic in community ecology, especially for microorganisms that are often assumed to be ubiquitous. We investigated the impact of these factors for the community assembly of the root-symbiont arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) by sampling roots from geothermal and nonthermal grasslands in Yellowstone National Park (YNP), followed by sequencing and RFLP of AMF ribosomal DNA. With the exception of an apparent generalist RFLP type closely related to Glomus intraradices, a distance-based redundancy analysis indicated that the AMF community composition correlated with soil pH or pH-driven c…
Mass spectrometric study of oligourea macrocycles and their anion binding behavior
2009
Two series, one of tris-urea macrocycles and another of hexakis-urea macrocycles, are examined by (tandem) Fourier-transform ion cyclotron resonance (FTICR) mass spectrometry with respect to their fragmentation patterns and anion binding properties. All macrocycles are based on two different building blocks, one of which is a very rigid xanthene unit and the other one is a more flexible diphenyl ether. The composition and the sequence of these units thus determine their flexibility. During the fragmentation of deprotonated oligourea macrocycles in the gas phase, one urea N-CO bond is cleaved followed by a scrambling reaction within the macrocycle structure. Consequently, fragments are obser…

Towards a Novel Approach to Multimedia Data Mixed Fragmentation
2009
International audience; Distributed multimedia applications have emerged at an increasing rate during the last decade in several domains (video conferencing, e-health, virtual meeting rooms, etc). This has created several new challenging problems related to the data integration and fragmentation, user-oriented and adaptive interfaces, real time and network performances, etc. In this paper, we focus on the problem of data(base) fragmentation in a multimedia context. We recall in this respect that data fragmentation consists of reducing irrelevant data accesses by grouping data frequently accessed together in dedicated segments. We mainly address the issue of query and predicate implication r…
