Adherence to Medication in Older Adults with Type 2 Diabetes Living in Lubuskie Voivodeship in Poland: Association with Frailty Syndrome

2022

Purpose: Diabetic patients aged 65 years or older are more likely to be frail than non-diabetic older adults. Adherence to therapeutic recommendations in the elderly suffering from diabetes and co-existent frailty syndrome may prevent complications such as micro- or macroangiopathy, as well as significantly affect prevention and reversibility of frailty. The study aimed at assessing the impact of frailty syndrome (FS) on the level of adherence to medication in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes (DM2). Patients and Methods: The research was carried out among 175 DM2 patients (87; 49.71% women and 88; 50.29% men) whose average age amounted to 70.25 ± 6.7. Standardized research instr…

Geriatrijas pacientu ar vecuma nespējas sindromu stacionārās rehabilitācijas perioda rezultātu izvērtējums

2018

Nosaukums: Geriatrijas pacientu ar vecuma nespējas sindromu stacionārās rehabilitācijas perioda rezultātu izvērtējums Problēmas raksturojums: Vecuma nespējas sindroms izraisa dažādu organisma sistēmu priekšlaicīgu novecošanos un samazina fizioloģiskās rezerves, palielina stacionārās ārstēšanas biežumu un pazemina dzīves kvalitāti, īpaši akūtu saslimšanu gadījumos. Mērķis: analizēt vecāka gadu gājuma pacientu, kuri pakļauti stacionēšanas riskam vai nespēj turpināt uzsākto akūtās saslimšanas ārstēšanu ambulatori, veselības stāvokli, ņemot vērā, vai viņi bija spējīgi atgriezties savā dzīvesvietā pēc rehabilitācijas noslēguma. Pētījuma metodes: funkcionalitātes izvērtējums tika veikts ārstēšana…

Higher animal-derived dietary protein intake is associated with lower prevalence of frailty

2019

Background: It is accepted that malnutrition is involved in the pathophysiology of frailty. However, the relationship between dietary animal-derived protein (DAP) intake and the prevalence of frailty is still unclear. Using data from the FRAIL Project, we aimed to determine whether DAP consumption is associated with frailty in community-dwellers aged 65 years and older. Methods: In this cross-sectional study involving only participants older than 65 years, DAP intake was evaluated through specific items of the Mini-Nutritional Assessment (MNA). Frailty status was assessed according to the Cardiovascular Health Study (CHS) model, which consists of five items (unintentional weight loss, weakn…

Evaluation of bio-psycho-social frailty in older persons on the territory: The method and the experience of the ‘medesano health house’

2020

Background and aim of the work: Frailty in older people is a situation of risk of dependency caused by many factors. On this consideration, the Medesano city started a survey on the condition of fragility of people >75 aimed at building a monitoring system for timely interventions on the factors of risk and implementation of measures for preventing dependency. Methods: The survey was conducted jointly by the family doctor and the social worker in the City. The multidimensional assessment considered logistic and housing conditions, disease, medications, basic and instumental acitvities of daily living, neurological and psycological conditions. Coexistence of frailty syndrome and the level of health behaviors in elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

2023

Materiał i metody: Zbadano 100 pacjentów z rozpoznaniem POChP (średnia wie…

Early-Life Factors as Predictors of Age-Associated Deficit Accumulation Across 17 Years From Midlife Into Old Age

2022

Abstract Background Early-life exposures have been associated with the risk of frailty in old age. We investigated whether early-life exposures predict the level and rate of change in a frailty index (FI) from midlife into old age. Methods A linear mixed model analysis was performed using data from 3 measurement occasions over 17 years in participants from the Helsinki Birth Cohort Study (n = 2 000) aged 57–84 years. A 41-item FI was calculated on each occasion. Information on birth size, maternal body mass index (BMI), growth in infancy and childhood, childhood socioeconomic status (SES), and early-life stress (wartime separation from both parents) was obtained from registers and health ca…

Early life determinants of frailty in old age : the Helsinki Birth Cohort Stud

2018

Background there is evidence suggesting that several chronic diseases have their origins in utero and that development taking place during sensitive periods may affect the aging process. We investigated whether early life determinants would be associated with frailty in old age. Methods at a mean age of 71 years, 1,078 participants belonging to the Helsinki Birth Cohort Study were assessed for frailty according to the Fried frailty criteria. Early life measurements (birth weight, length, mother body mass index [BMI] and parity) were obtained from birth, child welfare and school health records. Multinomial regression analysis was used to assess the association between early life determinants…
