Developing a conceptual framework for the co-operative and mutual enterprise business model
2018
AbstractThe co-operative and mutual enterprise business model represents a unique type of organisation that has a dual purpose focused on both economic and social goals. For nearly two centuries it has played an important role in economic development, job creation and addressing market failures. However, despite its potential importance to economic development it has been largely ignored within the mainstream economics and management literature. This paper provides an overview of the nature of the co-operative and mutual enterprise business model and also proposes a business model framework or ‘canvas’ that can be used for research, teaching and strategic analysis.
ASSESSMENT OF BEACH LITTER ALONG THE COAST: CASE STUDY OF THE CITY OF CADIZ (SPAIN)
2016
The United Nations Environment Program defines as waste all the persistent marine debris deposited or abandoned in the sea (marine litter) and beach (beach litter) environment. Thus including all substances or products abandoned or involuntarily dispersed into the sea or on the coastline. It has been estimated that, all around the world, about 10 million tons of waste coming from domestic, commercial and industrial activities reach the seas every year. Moreover, waste floating adrift in the seas and oceans can be carried very far away, reaching different places from the ones they were originated. Further, damage may result to various human activities and equipment, such as navigation, energ…
Naming organic wines in French and German A Frame Semantics analysis
2019
International audience; [Context]Naming a product is giving it an identity (Lobin, 2016); when it comes to wines it is offering them, the possibility to be easily discriminated and to catch the clients’ attention. This contribution aims at analyzing the naming of organic wines in two countries: France and Germany. If naming generic wines has already been investigated especially from a lexical point of view (Herling, 2015), wine names from the organic wine industry have for the time being been left aside. In the meantime, previous studies based on authentic materials have underlined, since Lehrer, 1975, some specificities in the wine language like resorting to prototypes (Gautier & Bach, 201…
Between Composition and Emergentness: A Cognitive Semantics Re-Reading of the Way-Construction
2016
This study re-analyzes the English way-construction by having recourse to diverse concepts and tools of Talmy’s cognitive semantics. Drawing on his theory of recombinance and its relevance for conceptualizing the construction, the article implements Talmy’s theory of event integration, categorizes the way-construction as an instantiation of the open path event frame, considers link-ups of the schematic systems of force dynamics and attention as they become instantiated in the construction, and probes into its motion-aspect patterning, grounded in a conformation of space and time and resulting in a strategy that is called de-conflation. Further, it will recruit Talmy’s types of semantic conf…
A STUDY OF THE πN SCATTERING DATA WITH JP = 3/2- AND A PROOF OF THE EXISTENCE OF THE N*(1700)
2014
Using an interaction extracted from the local hidden gauge Lagrangians and the coupled channels ρN (s-wave), πN (d-wave), πΔ (s-wave) and πΔ (d-wave), we look in the region of [Formula: see text] and we find two resonances dynamically generated which are naturally associated to the N*(1520)(3/2-) and N*(1700)(3/2-). The N*(1700)(3/2-) appears neatly as a pole in the complex plane. The free parameters of the theory are chosen to fit the πN (d-wave) data. The unitary coupled channel approach followed here, in connection with the experimental data, leads automatically to a pole in the 1700 MeV region and makes this second 3/2- resonance unavoidable.
Asymptotics for thenth-degree Laguerre polynomial evaluated atn
1992
We investigate the asymptotic behaviour of ? n (n),n?? where ? n (x) denotes the Laguerre polynomial of degreen. Our results give a partial answer to the conjecture ?? n (n)>1 forn>6, made in 1984 by van Iseghem. We also show the connection between this conjecture and the continued fraction approximants of $$6\sqrt {{3 \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {3 \pi }} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} \pi }} $$ .
Integer Complexity: Experimental and Analytical Results II
2015
We consider representing natural numbers by expressions using only 1’s, addition, multiplication and parentheses. Let \( \left\| n \right\| \) denote the minimum number of 1’s in the expressions representing \(n\). The logarithmic complexity \( \left\| n \right\| _{\log } \) is defined to be \({ \left\| n \right\| }/{\log _3 n}\). The values of \( \left\| n \right\| _{\log } \) are located in the segment \([3, 4.755]\), but almost nothing is known with certainty about the structure of this “spectrum” (are the values dense somewhere in the segment?, etc.). We establish a connection between this problem and another difficult problem: the seemingly “almost random” behaviour of digits in the ba…
The case of equality in the dichotomy of Mohammadi–Oh
2019
If $n \geq 3$ and $\Gamma$ is a convex-cocompact Zariski-dense discrete subgroup of $\mathbf{SO}^o(1,n+1)$ such that $\delta_\Gamma=n-m$ where $m$ is an integer, $1 \leq m \leq n-1$, we show that for any $m$-dimensional subgroup $U$ in the horospheric group $N$, the Burger-Roblin measure associated to $\Gamma$ on the quotient of the frame bundle is $U$-recurrent.
Assessing interactional skills in a paired speaking test : raters’ interpretation of the construct
2019
The operationalization of interactional competence (IC) within the paired speaking test format allows for a range of interactional skills to be tested. However, in terms of assessment, challenges are posed with regard to the co-constructed nature of IC, making investigations into raters’ perceptions of the construct essential to inform test score interpretation. This qualitative study explores features of IC that raters attended to as they evaluated performances in a paired speaking test, part of a Swedish national test of English as a Foreign Language (EFL). Two groups of raters, 17 EFL teachers from Sweden, using national standards based on the Common European Framework of Reference for L…
The National Bilingual Programme in Colombia: Imposition or Opportunity?
2011
The National Bilingual Programme, created by the Colombian Ministry of Education in 2004, offers all students in the county the possibility of becoming bilingual in English and Spanish as part of a vision of increased productivity in a globalised world. However, the language and education policies promoted within this framework tend to foreground the development of English at the expense of bilingual competence in Spanish and English. This bilingual policy has been strongly criticised by several Colombian academics with regard to what they consider as the imposition in the Colombian context of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, the disregard of local knowledge and exp…
