Controlling the molecular diffusion in MOFs with the acidity of monocarboxylate modulators.
2021
The catalytic performance of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is related to their physicochemical properties, such as particle size, defect-chemistry and porosity, which synthetic control can be potentially achieved by coordination modulation. By combining PXRD, 1HNMR, FT-IR, N2 uptake measurements we have found insights that the different types of defects (missing linker or missing clusters consequence of the spatial distribution of missing linkers, and the combination of both) could be controlled by the type of modulator employed. We show that the molar percent of defects, either as missing linkers or as part of missing cluster defects, is related to the modulator’s acidity and subse…

FrameNet Resource Grammar Library for GF
2012
In this paper we present an ongoing research investigating the possibility and potential of integrating frame semantics, particularly FrameNet, in the Grammatical Framework (GF) application grammar development. An important component of GF is its Resource Grammar Library (RGL) that encapsulates the low-level linguistic knowledge about morphology and syntax of currently more than 20 languages facilitating rapid development of multilingual applications. In the ideal case, porting a GF application grammar to a new language would only require introducing the domain lexicon - translation equivalents that are interlinked via common abstract terms. While it is possible for a highly restricted CNL,…
Selective Change Driven Imaging: A Biomimetic Visual Sensing Strategy
2011
Selective Change Driven (SCD) Vision is a biologically inspired strategy for acquiring, transmitting and processing images that significantly speeds up image sensing. SCD vision is based on a new CMOS image sensor which delivers, ordered by the absolute magnitude of its change, the pixels that have changed after the last time they were read out. Moreover, the traditional full frame processing hardware and programming methodology has to be changed, as a part of this biomimetic approach, to a new processing paradigm based on pixel processing in a data flow manner, instead of full frame image processing.
Tecsis: Low-Cost Methodology To Distinguish Archaeological Findings
2006
The automatic or semi-automatic research of archaeological findings includes some methodologies and algorithms of the Computer Vision. Reconstruction of a scene is one of the key step to get the solution to that challenge. This paper will address a methodology to reconstruction underwater scenes with mosaicing techniques. The reconstruction of scene will be the video-mosaic of sea bottom landscapes starting from single video frames. The methodology is based on the evaluation of the optic °ow in between frames, and its motion estimation has been evaluated on the extracted features from the common areas of consecutive pairs frames. This approach carried out the motion model from a geometric p…
An agent-based system for maritime search and rescue operations
2010
Maritime search and rescue operations are critical missions involving personnel, boats, helicopter, aircrafts in a struggle against time often worsened by adversary sea and weather conditions. In such a context, telecommunication and in- formation systems may play a crucial role sometimes concurring to successfully accomplish the mission. In this paper we present an application able to localize the vessel who has launched a rescue request and to plan the most effective path for rescue assets. The application has been realised as a distributed and open multi-agent system deployed on rescue vehicles as well as on a land maritime stations of the Italian Coast Guard. The system is going to be t…
Practices of development assistance and climate change mitigation in reshaping the Mozambican REDD+ strategy
2020
ABSTRACTThis paper studies how the practices of climate change governance and development assistance have reshaped the Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) process in Mozambique. We look at how the original goals of the Mozambican REDD+ strategy changed in the interplay of different governance-related practices, both those originating locally and nationally, and those coming from international organisations. The paper is based on the frameworks of multilevel governance and practice theory. We identify six combinations of practices that are relevant in the REDD+ programmes and projects. Three of them are incorporated in the general idea of sustainability, inclu…
Hydrolase–like catalysis and structural resolution of natural products by a metal–organic framework
2020
[EN] The exact chemical structure of non-crystallising natural products is still one of the main challenges in Natural Sciences. Despite tremendous advances in total synthesis, the absolute structural determination of a myriad of natural products with very sensitive chemical functionalities remains undone. Here, we show that a metal-organic framework (MOF) with alcohol-containing arms and adsorbed water, enables selective hydrolysis of glycosyl bonds, supramolecular order with the so-formed chiral fragments and absolute determination of the organic structure by single-crystal X-ray crystallography in a single operation. This combined strategy based on a biomimetic, cheap, robust and multigr…
Cyclic response of masonry infilled RC frames: Experimental results and simplified modeling
2014
The recent large interest in nonlinear seismic analysis methods, static and dynamic, has required proper strategies of modeling based on reliable, and at the same time easy to use, constitutive laws for the structural elements. Regarding the behavior of framed structures, special attention has to be devoted to infills because of the key role they play in modifying overall stiffness, strength and ductility under seismic excitation. Pointing out the attention on this topic the paper discusses a criteria for modeling the structural behavior of infills based on a macromodeling approach, that is to say on the substitution of infills with diagonal pin jointed struts. Is here shown how multilinear…

A comprehensive monitoring of fitness, fatigue, and performance is crucial for understanding an athlete's individual responses to training to optimize the scheduling of training and recovery strategies. Resting and exercise-related heart rate measures have received growing interest in recent decades and are considered potentially useful within multivariate response monitoring, as they provide non-invasive and time-efficient insights into the status of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and aerobic fitness. In team sports, the practical implementation of athlete monitoring systems poses a particular challenge due to the complex and multidimensional structure of game demands and player and te…
