European comission's identity during brexit : a communication strategy change on twitter
2021
The European Union (EU) was founded to promote peace, prosperity and other values between an increasing number of member states (European Commission, 2001). However, Brexit has activated a reputation crisis that reinforces Euroscepticism (Borzel; Risse, 2018). The objective of the study is to identify the differences in the semantic construction and thematic framing of the European Commission during a two-year period, previous to Brexit and after Brexit, on a sample of 4827 tweets posted by the European Commission. Findings show that in the period before Brexit, the EU is presented as an abstract political body, highly informative on major crisis, and reactively framing messages with values…
Prevalence and characteristics of coronary artery disease in a population with suspected ischaemic heart disease using CT coronary angiography: corre…
2008
Purpose. This study was undertaken to describe the correlation between the distribution of coronary artery disease (CAD) in a symptomatic population with suspected ischaemic heart disease, cardiovascular risk factors (RF) and clinical presentation. Materials and methods. We studied 163 patients (mean age 65.5 years; 101 men and 62 women) referred for multidetector computed tomography coronary angiography (MDCT-CA) to rule out CAD. The patients had no prior history of revascularisation or myocardial infarction. We analysed how the characteristics of CAD (severity and type of plaque) can change with the increase in RF and how they are related to different clinical presentations. Results. Pati…
Cardiovascular risk assessment beyond Systemic Coronary Risk Estimation: A role for organ damage markers
2012
BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular risk assessment in the clinical practice is mostly based on risk charts, such as Framingham risk score and Systemic Coronary Risk Estimation (SCORE). These enable clinicians to estimate the impact of cardiovascular risk factors and assess individual cardiovascular risk profile. Risk charts, however, do not take into account subclinical organ damage, which exerts independent influence on risk and may amplify the estimated risk profile. Inclusion of organ damage markers in the assessment may thus contribute to improve this process. OBJECTIVE: Our aim was to evaluate the influence of implementation of SCORE charts with widely available indexes of organ damage, with t…
Competitive Discourses among the Valencian Right Wing: Communication and strategy in the 2019 regional elections
2020
The 2019 regional government election in The Valencian Country led to a new panorama on the Right. For the first time, there were three political parties competing for votes. In addition, the notoriety gained by the Far Right created a new political scene, posing a challenge to other parties. This paper analyses how the Partido Popular, Ciudadanos and Vox managed a campaign in which they were both electoral opponents but also potentially future parliamentary allies. The research examines the performance and campaign discourse of these three parties based on content analysis of the coverage of two newspapers’ (Levante-EMV and Las Provincias). The study examines the preferred frames of refere…
Management of Atrial Fibrillation Suppression in AF-HF Comorbidity Therapy (MASCOT) Trial
2003
Inter- [1,2], intra- [3,4], and atrioventricular [51(AV) dyssynchrony are not new concepts, but only recently have attempts been made to correct these disorders in an effort to treat heart failure (HF). A series of trials [6] has addressed partial or comprehensive cardiac resynchronization in patients with severe HF and evidence of cardiac dyssynchrony. Cardiac resynchronization should improve left ventricular (LV) performance; several trials [7-10] have demonstrated improvement in many hemodynamic parameters (LV and aortic pressure, shortening of mitral diastolic regurgitation, synchronized LV and atrial systole, LV volume, reduced myocardial oxygen consumption) and clinical end-points (qu…
El sesgo mediocéntrico del "framing" en España: una revisión crítica de la aplicación de la teoría del encuadre en los estudios de comunicación
2016
Artikulu honetan kritikoki aztertuko dira Espainian framing-ari buruzko literaturan gailentzen diren ikuspegi teoriko eta metodologikoak. Azterketaren helburua da azpimarratzea bitartekoa erdigune duen joera bat dagoela; izan ere, ikasketetan aldagai independente gisa landu ohi dira kazetaritza-enkoadraketak, baina ez dira horiek ekoiztean eta negoziatzean dagoen dinamika-eta gatazka-prozesua jorratzen. Joera horren arrazoia da markoak kazetaritza-errutinen emaitza gisa hartzen direla, eta, hori dela eta, ez da kontuan hartzen kazetaritza-marko horien ekoizpenen atzean hainbat eragin politiko, sozial eta ideologiko daudela.; This article provides a critical review of the theoretical and met…
Framing Scandals: Cognitive and Emotional Media Effects
2012
When covering violations of social norms by public figures, the mass media depict the resulting damages and attribute responsibility to actors. These depictions of responsibility constitute frames that elicit reactions from recipients. A theory regarding the effects of these media frames on cognitions, emotions, and opinions is presented. Content analyses of the media coverage of four cases and corresponding surveys were conducted. The findings indicate that the cognitions, emotions, and opinions of recipients cannot be sufficiently explained by learning of media input; recipients process the content based on individual frames. They complement fragmentary media frames and generate consisten…
Testosterone Levels in Males with Type 2 Diabetes and Their Relationship with Cardiovascular Risk Factors and Cardiovascular Disease
2010
ABSTRACT Introduction One of the factors involved in type 2 diabetes in males is a reduction in levels of testosterone, which has been shown to predict resistance to insulin and the development of cardiovascular diseases. Aim To assess the levels of testosterone in patients with type 2 diabetes and to evaluate their relationship with cardiovascular risk factors, peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and silent myocardial ischemia (SMI). Methods Total testosterone and sex hormone binding globulin were measured and free and bioavailable testosterones were calculated using Vermeulen's formula. Levels of total testosterone ≥12 nmol/L or free testosterone >225 pmol/L were considered normal. PAD was …
Multicenter and all-comers validation of a score to select patients for manual thrombectomy, the DDTA score.
2021
Background Routine manual thrombectomy (MT) is not recommended in primary percutaneous coronary intervention (P-PCI) but it is performed in many procedures. The objective of our study was validating the DDTA score, designed for selecting patients who benefit most from MT. Methods Observational and multicenter study of all consecutive patients undergoing P-PCI in five institutions. Results were compared with the design cohort and the performance of the DDTA was analyzed in all patients. Primary end-point of the analyses was TIMI 3 after MT; secondary endpoints were final TIMI 3, no-reflow incidence, in-hospital mortality and in-hospital major cardiovascular events (MACE). In-hospital prognos…
Ramowanie bezpieczeństwa w debatach telewizyjnych w kampaniach wyborczych: samorządowej (2014) i parlamentarnej (2015)
2018
