Journalists’ Associations as Political Instruments in Central and Eastern Europe
2017
This editorial provides the overall context for the five cases—three national and two international—covered in this thematic issue. While the cases are from Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), they highlight fundamental questions of journalism everywhere, including contradictions between freedom and control, professionalism and politics, individual and collective. The associations of journalists serve as very useful platforms to study these questions, especially at historical turning points when the whole political system changed, as happened twice in CEE after World War II.
New Results in Generalized Minimum Variance Control of Computer Networks
2014
In this paper new results in adaptive (generalized) minimum variance control of packet switching computer networks are presented. New solutions, corresponding to the new inverses of the nonsquare polynomial matrices, can be used for design of robust control of multivariable systems with different number of inputs and outputs. Application of polynomial matrix inverses with arbitrary degrees of freedom creates the possibilities to optimal control of computer networks in terms of usage their maximal bandwidth. Simulation examples made in Matlab environment show big potential of presented approach. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5755/j01.itc.43.3.6268
Use of a running coupling in the NLO calculation of forward hadron production
2018
We address and solve a puzzle raised by a recent calculation [1] of the cross-section for particle production in proton-nucleus collisions to next-to-leading order: the numerical results show an un- reasonably large dependence upon the choice of a prescription for the QCD running coupling, which spoils the predictive power of the calculation. Specifically, the results obtained with a prescription formulated in the transverse coordinate space differ by one to two orders of magnitude from those obtained with a prescription in momentum space. We show that this discrepancy is an artefact of the interplay between the asymptotic freedom of QCD and the Fourier transform from coordinate space to mo…
Perspectiva feminista como ética periodística en México
2021
Humanity in Times of Crisis
2014
The belief in a politics of humanity, even in times of crisis, can be argued to serve as the basis of Hannah Arendt’s political thought. By presupposing freedom as a human condition, Arendt’s account of the political addresses what she takes to be humans’ capability to begin something anew, which involves new-born children as well critique of the society. Also, one way in which Arendt may be read, is by holding that the politics of humanity is, fundamentally speaking, grounded in new-born’s embodiment. Although Arendt rejects a direct link between the body and the political respectively, it still seems as if her account of humanity and dignity should be interpreted as depending on the ontol…
Un amico ha fatto questo. Simone Weil e l'amicizia eretica
2019
Pure friendship as an implicit form of God’s love is the one in which we observe the freedom of man to choose bonds that do not have the defective character of need and necessity. The reflection of God’s love in a man capable of such freedom puts man himself in a position to be master of his own field and to keep the tares so as not to damage wheat until the time of harvest. Until the moment in which love is recognized the search for a good that coincides with that of the other and that does not know restrictions and limitations of freedom.
CQ*-Algebras of Operators and Application to Quantum Models
2000
C*-algebras constitute, as known, the cornerstones of the Haag-Kastler [1] algebraic approach to quantum systems, with infinitely many degrees of freedom: one usually starts, in fact, with associating to each bounded region V of the configuration space of the system the C*-algebra A v of local observables in V. The uniform completion A of the algebra A0 generated by the Av’s is then considered as the C*-algebra of observables of the system.
Stability of Hamiltonian Systems of Two Degrees of Freedom and of Formally Conservative Mappings Near a Singular Point
1985
We restrict ourselves to the stability problems considered in our lecture because the length of this paper is limited. In contrast to the lecture, however, we consider here not only area preserving mappings but a more general class of mappings.
Remark on integrable Hamiltonian systems
1980
An extension ton degrees of freedom of the fact is established that forn=1 the time and the energy constant are canonically conjugate variables. This extension is useful in some cases to get action-angle variables from the general solution of a given integrable Hamiltonian system. As an example the Delaunay variables are proved to be canonical.
The KAM Theorem
2016
This theorem guarantees that, under certain assumptions, in the case of a perturbation \(\varepsilon H_{1}(\boldsymbol{J},\boldsymbol{\theta })\) with small enough ɛ, the iterated series for the generator W(θ i 0, J i ) converges (according to Newton’s procedure) and thus the invariant tori are not destroyed. The KAM theorem is valid for systems with two and more degrees of freedom. However, in the following, we shall deal exclusively with the case of two degrees of freedom.
