Exploring Oscillatory Dysconnectivity Networks in Major Depression During Resting State Using Coupled Tensor Decomposition

2022

Dysconnectivity of large-scale brain networks has been linked to major depression disorder (MDD) during resting state. Recent researches show that the temporal evolution of brain networks regulated by oscillations reveals novel mechanisms and neural characteristics of MDD. Our study applied a novel coupled tensor decomposition model to investigate the dysconnectivity networks characterized by spatio-temporal-spectral modes of covariation in MDD using resting electroencephalography. The phase lag index is used to calculate the functional connectivity within each time window at each frequency bin. Then, two adjacency tensors with the dimension of time frequency connectivity subject are constr…

Identical fits of nonnegative matrix/tensor factorization may correspond to different extracted event-related potentials

2010

Nonnegative Matrix / Tensor factorization (NMF/NTF) have been used in the study of EEG, and the fit (explained variation) is often used to evaluate the performance of a nonnegative decomposition algorithm. However, this parameter only reveals the information derived from the mathematical model and just exhibits the reliability of the algorithms, and the property of EEG can not be reflected. If fits of two algorithms are identical, it is necessary to examine whether the desired components extracted by them are identical too. In order to verify this doubt, we performed NMF and NTF on the same dataset of an auditory event-related potentials (ERPs), and found that the identical fits of NMF and …

Epilepsy stages diagnosis by Gabor atom density according to their aspect ratio

2008

During epilepsy seizure Electrocorticogram (ECoG) may change dramatically from a nearly chaotic signal (basal state) into a highly synchronized signal during a seizure, characterized by high amplitude and low frequency, and suddenly go back to the basal sate, making hard to identify them from time series. The epileptic seizure shows some stages as it is evolving, the here studied are: basal, preictal, ictal and posictal. As most of the bioelectrical signal, ECoG is a highly non periodical signal, so the most suitable techniques to analyze them are the Time-Frequency algorithms (T-F), allowing to follow up its frequency evolution through the seizure. Each seizure stage has a set of frequency…

Empirical Mode Decomposition on Mismatch Negativity

2008

Empirical mode decomposition (EMD) has been applied in the various disciplines to extract the desired signal. The basic principle is to decompose a time series into intrinsic mode functions (IFMs) and each IFM corresponds to an oscillation phenomenon. A statistical description of the oscillatory activities of the EEG has been well known. It is desired to extract single oscillatory process from the EEG by EMD. Mismatch negativity (MMN) can be automatically elicited by the deviant stimulus in an oddball paradigm, in which physically the deviant stimulus occurs among repetitive and homogeneous stimuli. MMN thus reflects the ability of the brain to detect changes in auditory stimuli. So, the MM…

Extract Mismatch Negativity and P3a through Two-Dimensional Nonnegative Decomposition on Time-Frequency Represented Event-Related Potentials

2010

This study compares the row-wise unfolding nonnegative tensor factorization (NTF) and the standard nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) in extracting time-frequency represented event-related potentials—mismatch negativity (MMN) and P3a from EEG under the two-dimensional decomposition The criterion to judge performance of NMF and NTF is based on psychology knowledge of MMN and P3a MMN is elicited by an oddball paradigm and may be proportionally modulated by the attention So, participants are usually instructed to ignore the stimuli However the deviant stimulus inevitably attracts some attention of the participant towards the stimuli Thus, P3a often follows MMN As a result, if P3a was large…

Diagnosis and Planning in Immediate Loading: Surgical Diagnosis

2019

For several decades, two-dimensional images were the only available for the surgical diagnosis prior to implant placement. The introduction of digital radiology and software applications for three-dimensional imaging has increased the prospects of success in implant diagnosis and surgical placement. The CBCT is definitely more precise and complete than panoramic radiography, but it is not always mandatory for every case. Success for fixed implant-supported rehabilitations, especially in immediate provisionalization techniques, depends on accurate pre-surgical evaluation of the following issues: (1) recognize feasible restoration procedures to rehabilitate patient edentulism; (2) list all th…

Resonance frequency analysis-reliability in third generation instruments : Osstell mentor ®

2012

Few studies assess repeatability and reproducibility in registers of resonance frequency analysis (a value of dental implant stability). Objective: Few studies assess repeatability and reproducibility in resonance frequency analyses (implant stability evaluation). This study is aimed at assessing reliability (repeatabilty and reproducibility) in the Osstell Mentor® system using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) as the statistical method. Study Design: ISQ measurements of RFA were carried out by means of the Osstell Mentor ® instrument in 58 implants in 19 patients. Six measurements were performed on each implant by means of two different Smart-Pegs (I and II). Three consecutive m…

Noise effect in a sine-Gordon Lattice

2013

International audience; This paper is devoted to the influence of internal noise in a sine-Gordon chain exhibiting the well known nonlinear supratransmission phenomenon. It is shown that spatiotemporal noise can trigger breather modes with a given probability in a range of parameters where they do not occur without noise. A frequency analysis is carried out to quantify the degree of coherence of the emitted breather. It is shown that there exists an appropriate amount of noise which ensures the existence of breather modes with the best coherence.

Postural and gestural synchronization, sequential imitation, and mirroring predict perceived coupling of dancing dyads

2023

Body movement is a primary nonverbal communication channel in humans. Coordinated social behaviors, such as dancing together, encourage multifarious rhythmic and interpersonally coupled movements from which observers can extract socially and contextually relevant information. The investigation of relations between visual social perception and kinematic motor coupling is important for social cognition. Perceived coupling of dyads spontaneously dancing to pop music has been shown to be highly driven by the degree of frontal orientation between dancers. The perceptual salience of other aspects, including postural congruence, movement frequencies, time-delayed relations, and horizontal mirrorin…

Improved Quadratic Time-frequency Distributions for Detecting Inter-turn Short Circuits of PMSMs in Transient States

2020

This paper aims to improve quadratic time-frequency distributions to adapt condition monitoring of electrical machines in transient states. Short-Time Fourier transform (STFT) has been a baseline signal processing technique for detecting fault characteristic frequencies. However, limits of window sizes due to loss of frequency- or time-resolution, make it hard to capture rapid changes in frequencies. Within this study, Choi-Williams and Wigner-Ville distributions are proposed to effectively detect peaks at characteristic frequencies while still maintaining low computation time. The improved quadratic time-frequency distributions allow for generating spectrograms of a longer lasting data sig…
