Static output-feedback controller design for vehicle suspensions: an effective two-step computational approach

2014

In this study, a novel two-step methodology is applied in designing static output-feedback controllers for a class of vehicle suspension systems. Following this approach, an effective synthesis of static output-feedback controllers can be carried out by solving two consecutive linear matrix inequality optimisation problems. To illustrate the main features of the proposed design strategy, two different static output-feedback H 8 controllers are designed for a quarter-car suspension system. The first of those controllers uses the suspension deflection and the sprung mass velocity as feedback information, whereas the second one only requires the sprung mass velocity to compute the control acti…

Full- and Reduced-order Model of Hydraulic Cylinder for Motion Control

2017

This paper describes the full- and reduced-order models of an actuated hydraulic cylinder suitable for system dynamics analysis and motion control design. The full-order model incorporates the valve spool dynamics with combined dead-zone and saturation nonlinearities - inherent for the orifice flow. It includes the continuity equations of hydraulic circuits coupled with the dynamics of mechanical part of cylinder drive. The resulted model is the fifth-order and nonlinear in states. The reduced model neglects the fast valve spool dynamics, simplifies both the orifice and continuity equations through an aggregation, and considers the cylinder rod velocity as output of interest. The reduced mo…

Modeling and field-experiments identification of vertical dynamics of vehicle with active anti-roll bar

2020

This paper deals with modeling and identification of vertical dynamics of the ground vehicle equipped with two active anti-roll torsion bars. A series of field tests of a full-scale drive have been performed, from which multiple displacement and acceleration data of the unsprung and sprung masses have been collected for each vehicle corner. The standard full vertical vehicle model is extended by the developed model of an active anti-roll torsion bar and valve-controlled semi-active shock absorbing damper. Along with the three-dimensional damping map, the nonlinear progressive stiffness of the elastomer-based decoupling unit are identified from the available data. The multi-channel and multi…

Monte Carlo analysis of electronic noise in semiconductors under sub‐terahertz cyclostationary mixed fields

2006

This paper reports the results of Monte Carlo simulations of electronic noise in a GaAs bulk driven by two mixed high-frequency large-amplitude periodic electric fields. Under these conditions, the system response shows some peculiarities in the noise performance, such as a resonant-like enhancement of the spectra near the two frequencies of the applied fields. The relations among the frequency response and the velocity fluctuations as a function of intensities and frequencies of the sub-terahertz mixed excitation fields have been investigated. Wave-mixing effects on electronic noise in semiconductors

2006

The results of a Monte Carlo analysis of hot-electron intrinsic noise in a n-type GaAs bulk driven by two mixed large-amplitude alternating electric fields having frequency in the subterahertz range are presented. The noise properties are investigated by studying the velocity autocorrelation function and the noise spectrum. We explored the relations among the frequency response and the velocity fluctuations as a function of the frequencies and intensities of the mixed fields. When the semiconductor is driven by two mixed ciclostationary electric fields, a resonant-like enhancement of the spectra near the two frequencies of the applied fields is found.

On the Frequency Behaviour, Stability and Isolation Properties of Dry Friction Oscillators

2006

This paper proposes a new approach to the frequency responses of one-degree-of-freedom oscillators subject to periodic excitations in presence of mixed dry-viscous friction. The idea is to get free from the analysis of one fixed system by letting the physical parameters cover their own whole ranges and investigating the various behavioural aspects of wide classes of oscillators. The existence, uniqueness and stability of the steady-state solutions are analysed in detail, assuming different coefficients of static and sliding friction. The possible arising of motions characterized by anti-periodic asymmetry or multi-stick oscillations is enlightened and maps of the system behaviour are presen…

An all-fiber RF modulation technique: frequency response calibration of optical detectors

1995

Two all-fiber Mach-Zender interferometers have been designed to generate RF modulated light at 633 nm and 830 nm. The interferometers are scanned with a piezoelectric tube driven at its fundamental frequency of resonance. The actual experimental arrangement covers the frequency range 1 kHz to 1 GHz. The technique combines several interesting features such as the simplicity, the stability and reliability of all-fiber systems and the use of low-frequency electronics to control and generate the RF modulated light. >

Characterization of Current Transformers in the Presence of Harmonic Distortion

2008

The CTs performance under distorted conditions are usually characterized by means of the frequency response test. In this paper a new way to characterize CTs, closer to real operative conditions, is proposed. The harmonic phase angle and ratio errors are measured when the CTs are excited with a nonsinusoidal current composed of a fundamental and one harmonic, with adjustable phase shift. The errors measured using the new approach were found larger than the ones obtained with the frequency response. This suggests that frequency response is not a reliable method to evaluate the CT performance under distorted conditions.

Effective Landau-Zener transitions in circuit dynamical Casimir effect with time-varying modulation frequency

2016

We consider the dissipative single-qubit circuit QED architecture in which the atomic transition frequency undergoes a weak external time-modulation. For sinusoidal modulation with linearly varying frequency we derive effective Hamiltonians that resemble the Landau-Zener problem of finite duration associated to a two- or multi-level systems. The corresponding off-diagonal coupling coefficients originate either from the rotating or the counter-rotating terms in the Rabi Hamiltonian, depending on the values of the modulation frequency. It is demonstrated that in the dissipation less case one can accomplish almost complete transitions between the eigenstates of the bare Rabi Hamiltonian even f…

Characterization and Error Compensation of a Rogowski Coil in the Presence of Harmonics

2011

This paper reports the results of an experimental study dealing with a commercial Rogowski coil current transducer (RCCT) in the presence of harmonic distortion. The RCCT was observed under two conditions: 1) sinusoidal excitation with frequencies from 50 to 750 Hz and 2) nonsinusoidal excitation using fundamental frequency and one harmonic, with adjustable amplitude and phase shift. The experimental results show only a weak dependence of the harmonic current ratio error and phase displacement on the amplitude and phase shift of the excitation harmonic. The phase displacement is also independent of the conductor position within the Rogowski coil window. An error compensation method, based o…
