Exploring Skopos in the Dutch Dubbed Versions of the Songs of Disney's Frozen
2018
An important part in dubbing an animated musical film – as in any translation – is setting a purpose (perhaps subconsciously) for that particular project and establishing a set of priorities to achieve that purpose. This article investigates the purpose, or skopos, of the dubbing process of the Dutch songs from the 2013 Disney film Frozen, and analyses the effect of those skopi on the songs. This analysis uses the triangle of aspects, a comprehensive model to compare a dubbed version of a song to the original on several important aspects, such as rhythm, lip synchrony, and sense. It is found that the Dutch songs differ most from the originals on semantic aspects, while they are most similar…
Rimbaud e Apollinaire nas recreacións poéticas bielorrusas: particularidades do tratamento fraseoestilístico / Rimbaud and Apollinaire in Belarusian …
2021
Management of the Sponataneous Bleeding Episodes in Factor VII Deficiency. A Prospective Evaluation of the STER,
2011
Abstract Abstract 3368 Introduction Patients with an inherited factor VII (FVII) deficiency may display a wide range of clinical phenotypes, from an asymptomatic condition to serious hemorrhagic episodes such as fatal central nervous system (CNS) or gastrointestinal (GI) bleeds (Mariani G et al. Thromb Haemost 2005; 93: 481–7). Symptomatic patients can be divided into two major categories: those with mild-to-moderate bleeding tendency and individuals with a severe bleeding tendency which may be more severe than that in hemophilia. The former group mainly experience mucosal bleeding, a clinical picture that mimics that of a platelet disorder and often does not call for treatment. In contrast…
LATE-BREAKING ABSTRACT: Comparative studies on bronchuswall-thickness by histologic and computed tomographic measurements of porcine lungs
2015
Aims: Histologic slides are commonly used as template in the evaluation and development of medical imaging methods.Diseases like Asthma and COPD show characteristic changes in airway morphology and airway measurement by computed tomography is a promising diagnostic approach. However, shrinkage caused by fixation and histological processing is known in lung tissue. In this study, the thickness of bronchus walls in paraffin and frozen sections as well as in CT and MicroCT were compared. Methods: Airway measurements of swine lungs were performed after freezing in ventilated condition in liquid nitrogen by measuring the wall thickness of 7 bronchi via CT and MicroCT as well as in frozen and paraffi…
Intraoperative DNA methylation classification of brain tumors impacts neurosurgical strategy
2021
Abstract Background Brain tumor surgery must balance the benefit of maximal resection against the risk of inflicting severe damage. The impact of increased resection is diagnosis-specific. However, the precise diagnosis is typically uncertain at surgery due to limitations of imaging and intraoperative histomorphological methods. Novel and accurate strategies for brain tumor classification are necessary to support personalized intraoperative neurosurgical treatment decisions. Here, we describe a fast and cost-efficient workflow for intraoperative classification of brain tumors based on DNA methylation profiles generated by low coverage nanopore sequencing and machine learning algorithms. Met…
Lysosomal trafficking in rat cardiac myocytes.
1990
By immunolabeling of cryosections, we have characterized in rat cardiac myocytes the cation-independent mannose-6-phosphate receptor (MPR), a lysosomal membrane glycoprotein, lgp120, and a lysosomal enzyme, MEP (homologous to cathepsin L). Most of the MPR label was located in large membrane-filled structures (MPR structures) in large clusters of mitochondria adjacent to but distinct from the Golgi complex. Lpg120 and MEP showed typical lysosomal localization throughout the cell, often associated with regions that appeared to contain autophagosome-like structures. In addition, MEP and lgp120 co-localized within MPR structures. MEP and MPR were localized inside the lumen of MPR structures. M…
Pediatric non-red cell blood product transfusion practices: what's the evidence to guide transfusion of the ‘yellow’ blood products?
2020
Purpose of review Research studies pertaining to the management of pediatric non-red cell blood product transfusion is limited. Clinical practices vary within disciplines and regions. Anesthesiologists need evidence-based guidelines to make appropriate and safe decisions regarding transfusion of the 'yellow' blood products for pediatric patients. Recent findings This review outlines clinical indications for transfusion of fresh frozen plasma, cryoprecipitate, platelets, and fibrinogen concentrate in pediatrics. Recent studies of non-red blood cell transfusions in critical, but stable situations are highlighted. Recommendations to guide transfusion of the 'yellow' blood products in operative…
Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura: Pathophysiology, Diagnosis, and Management
2021
Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a rare thrombotic microangiopathy characterized by microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, severe thrombocytopenia, and ischemic end organ injury due to microvascular platelet-rich thrombi. TTP results from a severe deficiency of the specific von Willebrand factor (VWF)-cleaving protease, ADAMTS13 (a disintegrin and metalloprotease with thrombospondin type 1 repeats, member 13). ADAMTS13 deficiency is most commonly acquired due to anti-ADAMTS13 autoantibodies. It can also be inherited in the congenital form as a result of biallelic mutations in the ADAMTS13 gene. In adults, the condition is most often immune-mediated (iTTP) whereas congenital TTP (cTT…
Bleeding in Uremia
2021
Progressive deterioration of renal function eventually leads to uremia, which is associated with impaired function of platelets and a disturbed platelet–vessel wall interaction thus increasing the risk of bleeding in patients with renal failure. Furthermore, also anemia and anticoagulants/antiplatelet drugs contribute to the increased risk of bleeding in patients with end stage renal disease. Management of bleeding episodes in uremic patients includes an adequate dialysis, the correction of anemia with erythropoietin or erythropoetin stimulating agents, the administration of estrogens, desmopressin, fresh frozen plasma, cryoprecipitate, factor VIIa, or tranexamic acid. In severe bleeding ep…
