Eating-related Environmental Factors in Underweight Eating Disorders and Obesity: Are There Common Vulnerabilities During Childhood and Early Adolesc…
2012
Objective This study aimed to examine whether there is an association between individual, social and family influences and dysfunctional eating patterns early in life and the likelihood of developing a subsequent underweight eating disorder (ED) or obesity. Method The total sample comprised 152 individuals (underweight ED, n = 45; obese patients, n = 65; healthy controls; n = 42) from Barcelona, Spain. The Cross-Cultural Questionnaire (CCQ) was used to assess early eating influences as well as individual and family eating patterns and attitudes towards food. Results Even though a few shared eating influences emerged for both groups, unique factors were also observed. Whereas relationship wi…
Meta-analysis of the efficacy of different training strategies in animal models of ischemic stroke.
2013
Background and Purpose— Although several studies have shown beneficial effects of training in animal stroke models, the most effective training strategy and the optimal time to initiate training have not been identified. The present meta-analysis was performed to compare the efficacy of different training strategies and to determine the optimal time window for training in animal stroke models. Methods— We searched the literature for studies analyzing the efficacy of training in animal models of ischemic stroke. Training was categorized into forced physical training, voluntary physical training, constraint-induced movement therapy, and skilled reaching training. Two reviewers independently …
Magnesium and anabolic hormones in older men
2011
Optimal nutritional and hormonal statuses are determinants of successful ageing. The age associated decline in anabolic hormones such as testosterone and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) is a strong predictor of metabolic syndrome, diabetes and mortality in older men. Studies have shown that magnesium intake affects the secretion of total IGF-1 and increase testosterone bioactivity. This observation suggests that magnesium can be a modulator of the anabolic/catabolic equilibrium disrupted in the elderly people. However, the relationship between magnesium and anabolic hormones in men has not been investigated. We evaluated 399 ≥65-year-old men of CHIANTI in a study population representat…
The impact of grouping patients by the 2017 GOLD COPD strategy on response to therapy: post hoc results from the TONADO tiotropium+olodaterol trials
2017
Introduction: In the 2017 GOLD COPD strategy the classification of patients by assessment of symptoms and history of exacerbation is used to guide treatment choices. The previous strategy also included lung function. Aims and objectives: To investigate the effect of the 2017 classification on an analysis of the efficacy of tiotropium+olodaterol (T+O) in GOLD stage A/B patients with COPD. Methods: Patients from the Phase III, replicate 52-week TONADO studies (NCT01431274, NCT01431287), who received T+O or the mono-components, were classed as GOLD A/B or C/D by the 2017 strategy (using exacerbation history) or 2014 strategy (using lung function and exacerbation history). Since mMRC Dyspnoea S…
Ageing and sexuality
2016
Abstract Sexuality is a dimension that concerns human health with profound implications not only in the biological and psychological aspects, but also in the social and cultural dimensions, affecting all ages of life. Sexuality in old age is still conditioned by biases, prejudices and from a stereotyped vision, which considered older people as “asexual”, in spite of several studies and surveys showing that older persons have sexual potential to express. In population surveys, a fair number of men and women aged over 60 years reported having sex at least once a month. The most influential predictor of sexual activity seems to be the physical health in older men, and the quality of the relati…
Outcomes of transcatheter tricuspid valve intervention by right ventricular function: a multicentre propensity-matched analysis
2021
BACKGROUND Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) has a poor prognosis and limited treatment options and is frequently accompanied by right ventricular (RV) dysfunction. Transcatheter tricuspid valve interventions (TTVI) to reduce TR have been shown to be safe and feasible with encouraging early results. Patient selection for TTVI remains challenging, with the role of right ventricular (RV) function being unknown. AIMS The aims of this study were 1) to investigate survival in a TTVI-treated patient population and a conservatively treated TR population, and 2) to evaluate the outcome of TTVI as compared to conservative treatment stratified according to the degree of RV function. METHODS We studied 684…
Intellectual disabilitiy in developmental age
2015
Intellectual disability (ID) is a neurodevelopmental dis- order characterized by deficits in intellectual and adap- tive functioning that present before 18 years of age [1]. ID is heterogeneous in etiology and encompasses a broad spectrum of functioning, disability, needs and strengths. Originally formulated in strictly psychometric terms as performance greater than 2.5 SDs below the mean on intelligence testing, the conceptualisation of ID has been extended to include defects in adaptive beha- viours [2]. The term-global developmental delay-(GDD) is usually used to describe children younger than 5-years of age who fail to meet expected developmental milestones in multiple areas of intellec…

Étude des tendances dysfonctionnelles de la personnalité chez des auteurs d’infractions sexuelles
2014
Objective A review of the literature reveals a consensus on the high prevalence of personality disorders among sexual offenders. Studies show that there is no unique personality profile for sex offenders. In France, little research has been conducted on this population with standardized assessment tools. The objective of the present study is to identify the distribution of personality disorders among sexual offenders using a new French questionnaire, i.e. the TD12. In view of the literature, we postulate that this tool will identify the diversity of personality disorders observed by various authors, but with a higher proportion of cluster B disorders. Methodology This study was conducted am…
THU0248 GLOMERULAR AND TUBULOINTERSTITIAL LESIONS IN PER-PROTOCOL REPEAT BUT NOT BASELINE KIDNEY BIOPSY PORTEND RELAPSE AND LONG-TERM RENAL FUNCTION …
2020
Background:In patients with lupus nephritis (LN), clinical response to treatment and renal histopathology have been shown to be discordant. No clinical or laboratory markers have to date been shown to reliably portend renal prognosis, in particular renal function impairment. Objectives:To investigate whether per-protocol repeat renal biopsies are predictive of LN relapses and long-term impairment of renal function.Methods:Forty-two patients with an incident biopsy-proven active proliferative (class III/IV ± V) LN from the LN database of the Université catholique de Louvain were included in the present retrospective study. Per-protocol repeat kidney biopsies were performed in all patients aft…
