Summary Background The bladder exstrophy–epispadias complex (BEEC) comprises a spectrum of congenital anomalies that represents the severe end of urorectal malformations, and has a profound impact on continence as well as sexual and renal functions. Objective The relation between severity of BEEC and its associated functional impairments, on one hand, and the resulting restrictions in quality of life and potential psychopathology determine the patients' outcome. Chemically and electrically induced sweating and flare reaction

Both thin afferent (nociceptors) and efferent (sympathetic sudomotor) nerve fibers can be activated electrically and chemically, resulting in neurogenic erythema and sweating. These reactions have been used before to assess the impairment of sympathetic and nociceptor fibers in humans. In this study, electrically induced sweating and erythema were assessed simultaneously in the foot dorsum and thigh, and were compared to chemically induced activation. Comparison of Foot and Hand Reaction Times among Men: A Methodologic Study Using Simple and Multiple-Choice Repeated Measurements

The primary study goal was to compare visual simple and choice reaction times of the hand and foot to assess validity of measurements for evaluating subjects' ability to perform rapid, controlled movements. First, we examined the repeatability ( N = 34) for four different data-sampling methods from a series of 12 trials within sessions and between two test sessions. Primary megaureter in adults.

The terminology of megaureters, their histological findings and etiology vary greatly in the literature. Primary obstructed megaureters must be clearly differentiated from megaureters caused by infravesical obstruction. The characterization and therapeutical consequences of the two types also differ. In a retrospective study, 43 adult patients with 54 primary obstructed megaureters (male:female = 30:13) were studied. This diagnosis excluded infravesical obstruction, reflux and neurogenic disorders. The main symptoms were flank pain, infection and hematuria. Asymmetry of gait after free flap reconstruction of severe tibial fractures with extensive soft-tissue damage.

Gait patterns of the preferred speed were investigated on 17 patients recovering (9 months-14 years) after reconstruction of severe tibial fractures. A novel data-acquisition system was used to record the plantar pressures as well as electromyographic (EMG) activities during walking. The results indicated incomplete recovery of symmetrical gait patterns. In particular, the duration of the stance phase was shorter on the operated side (mean (SD) 701 (90) ms compared with 765 (128) ms, p < 0.001).
