Hybrid ferrocene ligands (P, N) : synthesis, coordination to metals and applications in arylation coupling catalysis

2017

The research theme developed during this thesis concerns the development of new hybrid ferrocene hybrid (P, N) ligands with controlled conformation, robust and stable to air. These hybrid tetradent ligands comprise two types of coordinating functions with distinct steric and electronic properties. Their coordination chemistry with metals such as gold or palladium has been studied and some isolated Au (I) complexes have been used in the arylation coupling catalysis of aryl iodides.

On the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás type theorems

2017

This dissertation is devoted to the study of the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás property in different contexts. In Chapter 1 we give a historical resume and the motivation behind this property as the classics Bishop-Phelps and Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás theorems. We define the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás property (BPBp) and we comment on some important current results. In Chapter 2 we study similar properties to the BPBp. First, we define the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás point property (BPBpp). The BPBpp is stronger than the BPBp. We study it for bounded linear operators and then for bilinear mappings. After that, we study two more similar properties: properties 1 and 2. Property 2 is just the dual property of th…

A semi-parametric stochastic generator for bivariate extreme events

2017

The analysis of multiple extreme values aims to describe the stochastic behaviour of observations in the joint upper tail of a distribution function. For instance, being able to simulate multivariate extreme events is convenient for end users who need a large number of random replications of extremes as input of a given complex system to test its sensitivity. The simulation of multivariate extremes is often based on the assumption that the dependence structure, the so-called extremal dependence function, is described by a specific parametric model. We propose a simulation method for sampling bivariate extremes, under the assumption that the extremal dependence function is semiparametric. Th…

Non-supersymmetric Extremal Black Holes: First-Order Flows and Stabilisation Equations

2013

We review the results of [1, 2] on reducing the second-order equations of motion for stationary extremal black holes in four-dimensional \({\textit{N}}\,=\,2\) supergravity to first-order flow equations and further to non-differential stabilisation equations.

Almond by-products: Extraction and characterization of phenolic compounds and evaluation of their potential use in composite dough with wheat flour

2018

Blanched skins and blanching water, by-products of almond processing, were evaluated as potential ingredients of bakery products. The research included three phases: i) optimization of skin drying; ii) optimization of quali-quantitative determination of phenolic compounds, by comparing three extracting protocols; iii) assessment of the impact of by-products on the rheology of composite meals with wheat flour. Besides being less time-consuming, drying at 60 °C for 30 min lowered effectively skin moisture (7.86 g/100 g) and kept better odor notes (leafy and rancid odor scored 6.1 and 0.2, respectively), as well as higher content of phenolics (813.89 µg/g, with the most effective extracting me…

Functional Genomics of 5-to 8-Cell Stage Human Embryos by Blastomere Single-Cell cDNA Analysis

2010

Blastomere fate and embryonic genome activation (EGA) during human embryonic development are unsolved areas of high scientific and clinical interest. Forty-nine blastomeres from 5- to 8-cell human embryos have been investigated following an efficient single-cell cDNA amplification protocol to provide a template for high-density microarray analysis. The previously described markers, characteristic of Inner Cell Mass (ICM) (n = 120), stemness (n = 190) and Trophectoderm (TE) (n = 45), were analyzed, and a housekeeping pattern of 46 genes was established. All the human blastomeres from the 5- to 8-cell stage embryo displayed a common gene expression pattern corresponding to ICM markers (e.g., …

Human stem cells from single blastomeres reveal pathways of embryonic or trophoblast fate specification.

2015

Mechanisms of initial cell fate decisions differ among species. To gain insights into lineage allocation in humans, we derived ten human embryonic stem cell lines (designated UCSFB1-10) from single blastomeres of four 8-cell embryos and one 12-cell embryo from a single couple. Compared with numerous conventional lines from blastocysts, they had unique gene expression and DNA methylation patterns that were, in part, indicative of trophoblast competence. At a transcriptional level, UCSFB lines from different embryos were often more closely related than those from the same embryo. As predicted by the transcriptomic data, immunolocalization of EOMES, T brachyury, GDF15 and active β-catenin reve…

Blind deconvolution using TV regularization and Bregman iteration

2005

In this paper we formulate a new time dependent model for blind deconvolution based on a constrained variational model that uses the sum of the total variation norms of the signal and the kernel as a regularizing functional. We incorporate mass conservation and the nonnegativity of the kernel and the signal as additional constraints. We apply the idea of Bregman iterative regularization, first used for image restoration by Osher and colleagues [S.J. Osher, M. Burger, D. Goldfarb, J.J. Xu, and W. Yin, An iterated regularization method for total variation based on image restoration, UCLA CAM Report, 04-13, (2004)]. to recover finer scales. We also present an analytical study of the model disc…

A time evolution model for total-variation based blind deconvolution

2007

Departamento Matematica Aplicada, Universidad de Valencia, Burjassot 46100, Spain. We propose a time evolution model for total-variation based blind deconvolution consisting of two evolution equations evolv-ing the signal by means of a nonlinear scale space method and the kernel by using a diffusion equation starting from the zerosignal and a delta function respectively. A preliminary numerical test consisting of blind deconvolution of a noiseless blurredimage is presented.
