The Extinction of Generations in Generation-Dependent Bellman-Harris Branching Processes with Exponential Lifespan

If V is the time when in a Bellman-Harris branching model the k-th generation disappears out of the population, and if all individuals have exponentially distributed lifespans, the asymptotic behavior of the tail of the distribution of the extinction time V , P(V > t), is obtained, even if the distributions of the lifespans and the offspring sizes vary generation-dependent. Furthermore the times of extinction of several successive generations can be specified for the generation- independent case of the Markov branching model in continuous time. If the initial number of individuals and the absolute time grow up appropriately linked, a Poisson limit theorem for generation sizes will be given.

Introduction: This study was designed to assess the influence of chosen aspects of anorexia nervosa eating disorders (AN ED) on 13C-methacetin breath test (MBT) results. Material and methods: We investigated a group of 81 girls, including 41 patients with confirmed diagnosis of AN ED. The study group was divided in two subgroups. According to the DSM-5 classification, 25 underweight patients met the criteria of anorexia nervosa (AN), and 16 girls with BMI value > 5th percentile for age and sex were diagnosed as atypical anorexia nervosa (AAN). Extropy: Complementary Dual of Entropy

This article provides a completion to theories of information based on entropy, resolving a longstanding question in its axiomatization as proposed by Shannon and pursued by Jaynes. We show that Shannon's entropy function has a complementary dual function which we call "extropy." The entropy and the extropy of a binary distribution are identical. However, the measure bifurcates into a pair of distinct measures for any quantity that is not merely an event indicator. As with entropy, the maximum extropy distribution is also the uniform distribution, and both measures are invariant with respect to permutations of their mass functions. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the tasks through which communication professionals and public relations contribute to organizational decision making. In-depth interviews were conducted with Finnish public relations professionals about how they contribute to organizational decision making. The findings provide a rich picture of the tasks in relation to this. The results show that public relations professionals contribute to organizational decision-making processes by nine different tasks. Effects of Carbon-sp3 Bridging on the Electronic Properties of Oligothiophenes

Abstract The electronic properties of rigidified, carbon sp 3 -bridged bithiophenes and terthiophenes have been investigated using density functional theory calculations, sp 3 Bridging has no effect on the bandgap other than that associated to the planarization of the system. Rigidification significantly improves the ability of oligothiophenes as electron donors but diminishes their electron accepting capacity. Grafting of substituents at the sp 3 bridging carbon slightly modifies the electronic properties.
Air stable hybrid organic-inorganic light emitting diodes using ZnO as the cathode

An air stable hybrid organic-inorganic light emitting device is presented. This architecture makes use of metal oxides as charge injecting materials into the light emitting polymer, avoiding the use of air sensitive cathodes commonly employed in organic light emitting diode manufacturing. We report the application of zinc oxide as a cathode in an organic light emitting device. This electroluminescent device shows high brightness levels reaching 6500 cd/m2 at voltages as low as 8 V. Compared to a conventional device using low workfunction metal cathodes, our device shows a lower turn-on voltage and it can operate in air.

Theoretical modeling of antiferrodistortive phase transition forSrTiO3ultrathin films

Combining group-theoretical analysis and first-principles density functional theory calculations, we confirm theoretically the antiferrodistortive phase transition in ultrathin SrTiO${}_{3}$ (001) TiO${}_{2}$-terminated films and compare it with a similar transition in the bulk. We demonstrate phonon softening at the $M$ point of the surface Brillouin zone and analyze the change in the calculated electronic and phonon properties upon phase transition.

International audience; : Transverse and longitudinal relaxation times (T1ρ and T1 ) have been widely exploited in NMR to probe the binding of ligands and putative drugs to target proteins. We have shown recently that long-lived states (LLS) can be more sensitive to ligand binding. LLS can be excited if the ligand comprises at least two coupled spins. Herein we broaden the scope of ligand screening by LLS to arbitrary ligands by covalent attachment of a functional group, which comprises a pair of coupled protons that are isolated from neighboring magnetic nuclei.
