Hardy spaces and quasiconformal maps in the Heisenberg group
2023
We define Hardy spaces $H^p$, $00$ such that every $K$-quasiconformal map $f:B \to f(B) \subset \mathbb{H}^1$ belongs to $H^p$ for all $0<p<p_0(K)$. Second, we give two equivalent conditions for the $H^p$ membership of a quasiconformal map $f$, one in terms of the radial limits of $f$, and one using a nontangential maximal function of $f$. As an application, we characterize Carleson measures on $B$ via integral inequalities for quasiconformal mappings on $B$ and their radial limits. Our paper thus extends results by Astala and Koskela, Jerison and Weitsman, Nolder, and Zinsmeister, from $\mathbb{R}^n$ to $\mathbb{H}^1$. A crucial difference between the proofs in $\mathbb{R}^n$ and $\mathbb{…
Spatially localized solutions of the Hammerstein equation with sigmoid type of nonlinearity
2016
Abstract We study the existence of fixed points to a parameterized Hammerstein operator H β , β ∈ ( 0 , ∞ ] , with sigmoid type of nonlinearity. The parameter β ∞ indicates the steepness of the slope of a nonlinear smooth sigmoid function and the limit case β = ∞ corresponds to a discontinuous unit step function. We prove that spatially localized solutions to the fixed point problem for large β exist and can be approximated by the fixed points of H ∞ . These results are of a high importance in biological applications where one often approximates the smooth sigmoid by discontinuous unit step function. Moreover, in order to achieve even better approximation than a solution of the limit proble…
Absorption by black hole remnants in metric-affine gravity
2019
Using numerical methods, we investigate the absorption properties of a family of nonsingular solutions {which arise in different metric-affine theories, such as quadratic and Born-Infeld gravity.} These solutions continuously interpolate between Schwarzschild black holes and naked solitons with wormhole topology. The resulting spectrum is characterized by a series of quasibound states excitations, associated with the existence of a stable photonsphere.
The Complete Solution of the Classical SL(2,ℝ/U(1) Gauged WZNW Field Theory
1998
We prove that any gauged WZNW model has a Lax pair representation, and give explicitly the general solution of the classical equations of motion of the SL(2,R)/U(1) theory. We calculate the symplectic structure of this solution by solving a differential equation of the Gelfand-Dikii type with initial state conditions at infinity, and transform the canonical physical fields non-locally onto canonical free fields. The results will, finally, be collected in a local B\"acklund transformation. These calculations prepare the theory for an exact canonical quantization.
On AdS7 stability
2019
AdS$_7$ supersymmetric solutions in type IIA have been classified, and they are infinitely many. Moreover, every such solution has a non-supersymmetric sister. In this paper, we study the perturbative and non-perturbative stability of these non-supersymmetric solutions, focusing on cases without orientifolds. Perturbatively, we first look at the KK spectrum of spin-2 excitations. This does not exhibit instabilities, but it does show that there is no separation of scales for either the BPS and the non-BPS case, thus proving for supersymmetric AdS$_7$ a well-known recent conjecture. We then use 7d gauged supergravity and a brane polarization computation to access part of the spectrum of KK sc…
Finite size spectrum of SU(N) principal chiral field from discrete Hirota dynamics
2016
Using recently proposed method of discrete Hirota dynamics for integrable (1+1)D quantum field theories on a finite space circle of length L, we derive and test numerically a finite system of nonlinear integral equations for the exact spectrum of energies of SU(N)xSU(N) principal chiral field model as functions of m L, where m is the mass scale. We propose a determinant solution of the underlying Y-system, or Hirota equation, in terms of determinants (Wronskians) of NxN matrices parameterized by N-1 functions of the spectral parameter, with the known analytical properties at finite L. Although the method works in principle for any state, the explicit equations are written for states in the …
Short distances, black holes, and TeV gravity
2007
The Hawking effect can be rederived in terms of two-point functions and in such a way that it makes it possible to estimate, within the conventional semiclassical theory, the contribution of ultrashort distances at $I^+$ to the Planckian spectrum. Thermality is preserved for black holes with $l_P << 1$. However, deviations from the Planckian spectrum can be found for mini black holes in TeV gravity scenarios, even before reaching the Planck phase.
T and CPT Symmetries in Entangled Neutral Meson Systems
2011
Genuine tests of an asymmetry under T and/or CPT transformations imply the interchange between in-states and out-states. I explain a methodology to perform model-indepedent separate measurements of the three CP, T and CPT symmetry violations for transitions involving the decay of the neutral meson systems in B- and {\Phi}-factories. It makes use of the quantum-mechanical entanglement only, for which the individual state of each neutral meson is not defined before the decay of its orthogonal partner. The final proof of the independence of the three asymmetries is that no other theoretical ingredient is involved and that the event sample corresponding to each case is different from the other …
Modular invariant dynamics and fermion mass hierarchies around τ = i
2021
We discuss fermion mass hierarchies within modular invariant flavour models. We analyse the neighbourhood of the self-dual point $\tau=i$, where modular invariant theories possess a residual $Z_4$ invariance. In this region the breaking of $Z_4$ can be fully described by the spurion $\epsilon \approx \tau - i$, that flips its sign under $Z_4$. Degeneracies or vanishing eigenvalues of fermion mass matrices, forced by the $Z_4$ symmetry at $\tau=i$, are removed by slightly deviating from the self-dual point. Relevant mass ratios are controlled by powers of $|\epsilon|$. We present examples where this mechanism is a key ingredient to successfully implement an hierarchical spectrum in the lepto…
SOV approach for integrable quantum models associated to general representations on spin-1/2 chains of the 8-vertex reflection algebra
2013
The analysis of the transfer matrices associated to the most general representations of the 8-vertex reflection algebra on spin-1/2 chains is here implemented by introducing a quantum separation of variables (SOV) method which generalizes to these integrable quantum models the method first introduced by Sklyanin. More in detail, for the representations reproducing in their homogeneous limits the open XYZ spin-1/2 quantum chains with the most general integrable boundary conditions, we explicitly construct representations of the 8-vertex reflection algebras for which the transfer matrix spectral problem is separated. Then, in these SOV representations we get the complete characterization of t…
