The Proton Spectrum in Neutron Beta Decay: Latest Results with the aSPECT Spectrometer

2009

Abstract The purpose of the neutron decay spectrometer aSPECT is to determine the antineutrino electron angular correlation coefficient a with high precision. Latest measurements with aSPECT were performed during April/May 2008 at the Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble, France. In this paper we give a report on the experiment and the status of the ongoing data analysis.

Studying Indirect Violation of CP, T and CPT in a B-factory

2000

In this work we analyze the observable asymmetries one can build from entangled B-meson states, in order to extract information on the parameters epsilon and delta which govern indirect violation of discrete symmetries. The traditionally proposed observables, based on flavour tags, are not helpful for the study of the Bd-system, where the tiny value of the width difference between physical states clears up such asymmetry effects. Our study makes instead use of CP tags in order to build new asymmetries where the different parameters can be separated out. For this separation, it is decisive to achieve a good time resolution in the measurement of entangled state decays. Nevertheless, even with…

Are the Angular Correlations in pA Collisions due to a Glasmion or Bose Condensation ?

2014

Experiments at the LHC have recently reported results on the angular asymmetry coefficients $v_n[m]$, for various angular moments $n$ and orders of cumulants $m$, in high multiplicity p+Pb collisions. These coefficients are large, and have both even and odd moments. We discuss here some of the implications of these results for our understanding of the initial state of the collision (Color Glass Condensate) and for the evolution in the final state (Glasma and thermalized Quark Gluon Plasma). We show the Color Glass Condensate predicts large even moments, $v_n$ with $n$ an even integer. Odd moments are generated by final state interactions or fragmentation. For a multi-particle determination …

Observation of a narrow mass state decaying intoΥ(1S)+γinpp¯collisions ats=1.96  TeV

2012

Using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.3 fb(-1), we observe a narrow mass state decaying into Gamma(1S) + gamma, where the Gamma(1S) meson is detected by its decay into a pair of oppositely charged muons, and the photon is identified through its conversion into an electron-positron pair. The significance of this observation is 5.6 standard deviations. The mass of the state is centered at 10.551 +/- 0.014(stat) +/- 0.017(syst) GeV/c(2), which is consistent with that of the state recently observed by the ATLAS Collaboration.

Spectroscopy of the proton drip-line nucleus 203Fr

2013

The nucleus ${}^{203}$Fr has been studied through $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray and electron spectroscopy, using the recoil-decay tagging technique. A 13/2${}^{+}$ state, with a half-life of 0.37(5) $\ensuremath{\mu}$s, has been observed in ${}^{203}$Fr. Both the $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-decay branch and the internal de-excitation of the 1/2${}^{+}$ isomer in ${}^{203}$Fr have been studied. Furthermore, the corresponding 1/2${}^{+}$ state, with a half-life of 0.31(8) s, has been found in ${}^{199}$At. In addition, transitions feeding the 9/2${}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ ground state of ${}^{203}$Fr have been identified. The observed level pattern suggests that the ground state is still spherical.

Linear Nuclei: A Density Functional Interpretation

1997

We show that linear shape isomers of small even-even nuclei exist with nearly any internucleon interactions. The shapes of the linear isomers look like chains of alpha-particles, but single-particle spectrum reveals that alpha-particle interpretation is not needed. Indeed, the same shapes are obtained even with noninteracting particles in a rectangular cavity. Linear shape isomers are shown to exist also in metal clusters.

Quenching of gA deduced from the β-spectrum shape of 113Cd measured with the COBRA experiment

2018

A dedicated study of the quenching of the weak axial-vector coupling strength $g_{\rm A}$ in nuclear processes has been performed by the COBRA collaboration. This investigation is driven by nuclear model calculations which show that the $\beta$-spectrum shape of the fourfold forbidden non-unique decay of $^{113}$Cd strongly depends on the effective value of $g_{\rm A}$. Using an array of CdZnTe semiconductor detectors, 45 independent $^{113}$Cd spectra were obtained and interpreted in the context of three nuclear models. The resulting effective mean values are $\bar{g}_{\rm A}(\text{ISM}) = 0.915 \pm 0.007$, $\bar{g}_{\rm A}(\text{MQPM}) = 0.911 \pm 0.013$ and $\bar{g}_{\rm A}(\text{IBFM-2}…

Role of in-medium hadrons in photon–nucleus reactions: shadowing and dilepton spectrum

2003

We study the effect of in-medium hadronic properties in photon nucleus interactions in the context of shadowing as well as the dilepton spectrum for incident photon energies in the range 1.1- 3 GeV. A reasonable agreement with the experimental data for shadowing is obtained in a scenario of downward spectral shift of the hadrons. We show that distinguishable features for in-medium changes of the hadronic properties can be observed experimentally through the dilepton spectrum by judicious choice of target nuclei and incident energy of photons.

Study of meson production in nuclei near threshold

2009

We present a study of the η production at low energies in pd collision with 3He and pd nuclear systems in the final state. The η production mechanism is described by a two-step model and the final state interactions are included fully. The η - d and η - 3He final state interactions are incorporated through the solution of the Lippmann Schwinger equation for a half off-shell η - AT-matrix. For η - d this t -matrix is written in a factorized form, with an off-shell form factor multiplying an on-shell part having the scattering length representation. The p - d final state interaction is included by multiplying the production matrix element by the inverse of the Jost function which includes th…
