Degrees of irreducible characters of the symmetric group and exponential growth

2015

We consider sequences of degrees of ordinary irreducible S n S_n - characters. We assume that the corresponding Young diagrams have rows and columns bounded by some linear function of n n with leading coefficient less than one. We show that any such sequence has at least exponential growth and we compute an explicit bound.

A method for the probabilistic analysis of nonlinear systems

1995

Abstract The probabilistic description of the response of a nonlinear system driven by stochastic processes is usually treated by means of evaluation of statistical moments and cumulants of the response. A different kind of approach, by means of new quantities here called Taylor moments, is proposed. The latter are the coefficients of the Taylor expansion of the probability density function and the moments of the characteristic function too. Dual quantities with respect to the statistical cumulants, here called Taylor cumulants, are also introduced. Along with the basic scheme of the method some illustrative examples are analysed in detail. The examples show that the proposed method is an a…

Perturbations of symmetric elliptic Hamiltonians of degree four

2006

AbstractIn this paper four-parameter unfoldings Xλ of symmetric elliptic Hamiltonians of degree four are studied. We prove that in a compact region of the period annulus of X0 the displacement function of Xλ is sign equivalent to its principal part, which is given by a family induced by a Chebychev system; and we describe the bifurcation diagram of Xλ in a full neighborhood of the origin in the parameter space, where at most two limit cycles can exist for the corresponding systems.

Applications of the Conceptual Density Functional Theory Indices to Organic Chemistry Reactivity.

2016

Indexación: Web of Science Theoretical reactivity indices based on the conceptual Density Functional Theory (DFT) have become a powerful tool for the semiquantitative study of organic reactivity. A large number of reactivity indices have been proposed in the literature. Herein, global quantities like the electronic chemical potential μ, the electrophilicity ω and the nucleophilicity N indices, and local condensed indices like the electrophilic and nucleophilic Parr functions, as the most relevant indices for the study of organic reactivity, are discussed. http://www.mdpi.com/1420-3049/21/6/748

The spectra of mixed $^3$He-$^4$He droplets

2005

The diffusion Monte Carlo technique is used to calculate and analyze the excitation spectrum of $^3$He atoms bound to a cluster of $^4$He atoms, by using a previously determined optimum filling of single-fermion orbits with well defined orbital angular momentum $L$, spin $S$ and parity quantum numbers. The study concentrates on the energies and shapes of the three kinds of states for which the fermionic part of the wave function is a single Slater determinant: maximum $L$ or maximum $S$ states within a given orbit, and fully polarized clusters. The picture that emerges is that of systems with strong shell effects whose binding and excitation energies are essentially determined over configur…

Development of non-equilibrium Green's functions for use with full interaction in complex systems

2016

We present an ongoing development of an existing code for calculating groundstate, steady-state, and transient properties of many-particle systems. The development involves the addition of the full four-index two electron integrals, which allows for the calculation of transport systems, as well as the extension to multi-level electronic systems, such as atomic and molecular systems and other applications. The necessary derivations are shown, along with some preliminary results and a summary of future plans for the code. peerReviewed

Social and emotional functions in three patients with medial frontal lobe damage including the anterior cingulate cortex

2006

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to explore social and emotional functions in patients with medial frontal damage including the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC). METHODS: Three patients with medial frontal lobe lesions primarily involving the ACC performed tasks on motivational decision making, emotional facial expression recognition, and social cognition, including theory of mind (ToM). Their performance on these tasks was compared with age and education matched healthy controls. RESULTS: Patient performance on the motivational decision making and social situations tasks did not differ from controls. Selective emotional facial expression recognition impairment for fear was evident in…

Induced Chirality in Confined Space on Halogen Gold Complexes

2015

The solubilization of HAuCl4 in toluene within optically active reverse micelles and lamellar structures formed by (1R,2S)-Dodecyl(2-hydroxy-1-methyl-2-phenylethyl)- dimethylammonium bromide (DMEB) has allowed us to evidence the complex phenomenology accompanying the confinement of Au salt within these nanostructures. Together with a chloride/bromide exchange process occurring in the first coordination sphere of an Au ion, UV−vis and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra reveal the appearance of an induced dichroic signal attributable to Au complexes entrapped in the hydrophilic domain of the DMEB chiral nanostructures. Interestingly, change of the effective oxidation state and coordi…
