Looking for Some Historical Roots
2022
Knowledge comes from the observation that what surrounds us is provoked by the questions people poses when thinking on it; is reachecorrespondingd thanks to reasoning, and usually through establishing hypotheses and further testing them and their consequences against the reality. Speculation lays at the basic level of both ‘thinking on it’, and ‘establishing and testing hypotheses’.
Context, Inference’s Safety, Proving and Further Comments
2022
In no way does this Chap. 2 try to reach definitive conclusions. It is just a preliminary inquiry, containing no more than some initial reflections made basing Commonsense Reasoning on perception. Specifically, on the possibilities that measurable meaning and Indistinguishability Operators offer for its study. Human beings are slave of their senses that, usually, do not distinguish things below some threshold.
Trying to Pose the Main Problem: Measurable Meaning
2022
We have shown the necessity to reconsider the concept of ‘meaning’. In this framework ‘meaning’ should be a situational concept requiring to be bounded by specific definitions rendering it applicable to our needs. Membership functions should as well be seen as ‘measures’ of meaning, which would give them a meaning as well.
Introduction
2022
‘Natural Reasoning’, that with which lay people decide their daily actions, also called Ordinary, Everyday, or Commonsense Reasoning, can be seen as ruled by the universal laws defining its formal ‘skeleton’.
Examples on the Analysis of Statements Trough Design
2022
The first example concerns the analysis of two statements on which very few things are known, with the goal of establishing which one is truer, and what should be previously known in order to capture their respective meanings.
Fixed fuzzy points of fuzzy mappings in Hausdorff fuzzy metric spaces with application
2015
Recently, Phiangsungnoen et al. [J. Inequal. Appl. 2014:201 (2014)] studied fuzzy mappings in the framework of Hausdorff fuzzy metric spaces. Following this direction of research, we establish the existence of fixed fuzzy points of fuzzy mappings. An example is given to support the result proved herein; we also present a coincidence and common fuzzy point result. Finally, as an application of our results, we investigate the existence of solution for some recurrence relations associated to the analysis of quicksort algorithms.
AN ADDENDUM TO: A COMMON FIXED POINT THEOREM IN INTUITIONISTIC FUZZY METRIC SPACE USING SUBCOMPATIBLE MAPS"
2012
The aim of this note is to point out a fallacy in the proof of Theorem 3.1 contained in the recent paper ( Int. J. Contemp. Math. Sci. 5 (2010), 2699-2707) proved in intuitionistic fuzzy metric spaces employing the newly introduced notion of sub-compatible pair of mappings wherein our claim is also substantiated with the aid of an appropriate example. We also rectify the erratic theorem in two ways.
Observer-based finite-time fuzzy H∞ control for discrete-time systems with stochastic jumps and time-delays
2014
This paper is concerned with the problem of observer-based finite-time H ∞ control for a family of discrete-time Markovian jump nonlinear systems with time-delays represented by Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) model. The main contribution of this paper is to design an observer-based finite-time H ∞ controller such that the resulting closed-loop system is stochastic finite-time bounded and satisfies a prescribed H ∞ disturbance attenuation level over the given finite-time interval. Sufficient criteria on stochastic finite-time H ∞ stabilization via observer-based fuzzy state feedback are presented for the solvability of the problem, which can be tackled by a feasibility problem in terms of linear matrix…
A Fuzzy Approach to the Role of Symmetry in Shape Formation: The Illusion of the Scalene Triangle
2009
The main purposes of this work are to demonstrate the role of directional symmetry as a second order principle that polarizes the perception of the shape and to show how this preference can be easily encoded in an algorithm using a fuzzy operator for symmetry detection. The role of grouping in influencing shape perception and the role of directional symmetry was demonstrated through small triangles that create a large triangle. The specific questions answered in the psychophysical experiments were the following: Can the grouping by similarity influence both the pointing and the shape of the small and the large isosceles triangles? Conversely, can the shape of the large triangle influence th…
Obtaining the Compatibility between Musicians Using Soft Computing
2010
Modeling the musical notes as fuzzy sets provides a flexible framework which better explains musicians’ daily practices. Taking into account one of the characteristics of the sound: the pitch (the frequency of a sound as perceived by human ear), a similarity relation between two notes can be defined. We call this relation compatibility. In the present work, we propose a method to asses the compatibility between musicians based on the compatibility of their interpretations of a given composition. In order to aggregate the compatibilities between the notes offered and then obtain the compatibility between musicians, we make use of an OWA operator. We illustrate our approach with a numerical e…
