Contrainte de crédit et convergence vers la frontière technologique: Qu'en est-il des pays de la Zone CFA ?

2014

EnglishThis work aims to study the effects of credit-market imperfection on the convergence of the cfa zone to the frontier growth rate. It focuses on the fact that a less efficient credit market is a constraint that prevents these countries to benefit from technology transfer and causes them to deviate from the frontier of growth. The empirical approach based on generalized method of moments (gmm) in dynamic panel shows that a low level of financial development significantly slow the rate of convergence of these countries. francaisCe travail a pour objectif d’etudier les effets de l’imperfection du marche du credit sur la convergence des pays de la communaute financiere africaine (cfa) ver…

Memory in action – Performative practices in a dispute about the past: Serbia and Croatia at the turn of the 20th and 21st century

2019

Memory in action – Performative practices in a dispute about the past: Serbia and Croatia at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuryThe article is an attempt to combine in one reflection the elements of two directions of critical thinking: discursive and performative. The starting point of the analysis is the assumption (derived from beliefs common in pre-performative times) that every space (including a city’s territory) can be treated as a text. This means that both static artifacts and activities in a given space communicate a certain message and can be seen as signs or symbols that refer to something outside of them. Our reflection focuses on practices in which the performative potential …

A more efficient match between firms’ demand, VET supply and human capital capacities through bottom-up, participative governance

2013

Abstract One of the main challenges facing EU territories is the development of strategies to better adapt to changing global socio-economic trends. Lifelong education and training is a main strategic tool and a key component in the achievement of EU goals. One component of the lifelong education concept is Vocational Education and Training (VET), aimed at closing the gap between workers’ skills and qualification and changing demand in labour markets. Although local partnerships seem to be an adequate tool to implement VET strategies, some authors identify obstacles that can be attributed to bad practices. Thus, more evidence is needed to support the idea that local development and public-p…

Ingvar the Far-Travelled: between the Byzantium and Caucasus. A Maritime Approach to Discussion

2019

The Journey to the East of the Viking Ingvar the Far-Traveled is one of the events that fit into the history of medieval relations of the Scandinavians with the world of Byzantium. It was a fateful expedition taking place between 1036 and 1041, and to this day it is a source of many controversies and speculations of researchers. The findings of the present paper suggest that the journey did not necessarily proceed to the lands of the Saracens or Byzantium but may have been part of the game played by Constantinople with its ally Tmutarkan, which opposed Jaroslav the Wise, these events unfolding in the north-eastern waters of the Black Sea.

On Conditions Instantiating Tip Effects of Epistemic and Evidential Meanings in Bulgarian

2012

Nikephoros Bryennios the Younger – the First One Not to Become a Blind Man? Political and Military History of the Bryennios Family in the 11th and Ea…

2020

Nikephoros Bryennios the Younger has a place in the history of Byzantium as the author of one of the works devoted to the Komnenos family coming to power. This outstanding observer and talented leader, who was fascinated by the person of his father-in-law Alexius I Komnenos, came from a family whose ambitions were no less than the those in the one into which Nikephoros himself married. His father and grandfather, also his namesake, were those who dreamed of an imperial crown for themselves and tried to reach for it armed. Apart from defeat, they both faced punishment which was blinding. One of those who captured and ordered the father of Nikephoros the Younger to be blinded was his future f…

Foreign Migration of Poles in Scientific Research at the Turn of Century

2008

Foreign Migration of Poles in Scientific Research at the Turn of CenturyThe article deals with problems related to present foreign migrations of Poles. The attention is concentrated on presenting scientific research results in this sphere indicating many problems caused by migrations not only in the social, demographic and economic spheres but also in political and cultural spheres thus enabling scientists to understand better this complex and multidimensional phenomenon.

Substituting a Substitute Currency – The Case of Estonia

2002

This study evaluates substitution of foreign currency balances in Estonia, a transition economy neighbouring countries participating in EMU. The focus is on substitution between dollar and euro balances in the three basic functions of money - unit of account, store of value and means of payment. While traditional models for currency substitution concentrate on substitution between a domestic currency and aggregate foreign currency balances, we look for substitution between the dollar and the euro or euro-related foreign currency balances. We find substitution between dollarization and euroization to be asymmetric in the short run, which suggests that inertia, irreversibility and ratchet eff…

Translocation of cdk2 to the nucleus during G1-phase in PDGF-stimulated human fibroblasts.

1997

We studied the subcellular distribution of cdk2 in synchronized, PDGF-stimulated human fibroblasts (FH109). After contact inhibition and serum depletion, more than 95% of FH109 cells were arrested in G0/G1-phase. PDGF-AB led to a 16-fold increase in proliferation compared with untreated cells. Cell cycle progression was studied by flow cytometric analysis, [3H]thymidine incorporation, and phosphorylation of the retinoblastoma gene product, pRB. Using Western blot analysis after subcellular fractionation, we revealed that after PDGF stimulation the phosphorylated (Thr 160), i.e., activated, form of cdk2 (33 kDa) first appeared in the nucleus at late G1-phase and persisted throughout until to…

The DNA-binding subunit p140 of replication factor C is upregulated in cycling cells and associates with G 1 phase cell cycle regulatory proteins

1999

The DNA-binding subunit of replication factor C (RFCp140) plays an important role in both DNA replication and DNA repair. The mechanisms regulating activation of RFCp140 thereby controlling replication and cellular proliferation are largely unknown. We analyzed protein expression of RFCp140 during cell cycle progression and investigated the association of RFCp140 with cell cycle regulatory proteins in cell lines of various tissue origin and in primary hematopoietic cells. Western and Northern blot analyses of RFCp140 from synchronized cells showed downregulation of RFCp140 when cells enter a G0-like quiescent state and upregulation of RFCp140 in cycling cells. Translocation from the cytopla…
