Employee Sensemaking on the Importance of Sustainability Reporting in Sustainability Identity Change

2018

This study examines employee sensemaking processes in order to understand the role of sustainability reporting in organizational identity change. Through an analysis of 52 interviews with employees in two Finnish companies we develop sensemaking frames for understanding the role of sustainability reporting in organizational identity change. The three sensemaking frames are individualistic, relational and decoupled. Each of these sensemaking frames differs in stakeholder orientation. They indicate that sensemaking influences the interpretation of how important sustainability reporting is for organizational identity change towards sustainability. The study showed how the individualistic and r…

Unpacking the link between family socioeconomic status and civic engagement during the transition to adulthood: Do work values play a role?

2017

We investigated whether the link between family-of-origin socioeconomic status (SES) and civic engagement in young adulthood is mediated by youth’s work values, i.e., the desired characteristics of their current or future jobs. We used data from a Finnish study: 2004 (age 16–18, NT1 = 1,301); 2011 (age 23–25, N T2 = 1,096); and 2014 (age 25–27, NT3 = 1,138). A lower family SES in 2004 was negatively related to youth’s civic engagement in 2014. Lower family SES predicted the importance that youth attached to extrinsic job rewards (e.g., good pay) in 2011, but not the importance of intrinsic job rewards (e.g., learning opportunities). Extrinsic work values, in turn, predicted lower civic enga…

Społeczno-polityczne zaangażowanie Kościoła

2014

The paper examines the relationship between Church involvement and social engagement in a comparative, cross-cultural perspective. The study reveals that Christian religious tradition and, more important, church attendance play an important role in fostering involvement in civil society in contemporary countries, even after controlling for the effects of other factors generally associated with fostering social activity among members of society. The overarching motivation that encourages Churches to engage in social live comes from the teaching of Jesus and from own tradition. However there are many broad reasons for becoming involved in social activity: to show interest in and respect for o…

En ligne sur : http://2012.economicsofeducation.com/user/pdfsesiones/064.pdf; Using data from a survey conducted recently in Madagascar, the article analyzes what teachers and school directors do when they are at work and how they manage the pedagogical process. The results show that in only 15 percent of the sample schools do all of the teachers and school directors consistently perform the tasks considered essential to their role. Engagement at work is found to be significantly lower among contract teachers than among civil service teachers, and the ability of teachers to manage the pedagogical process does not improve with accumulated experience. Other noteworthy features in the importan…
