Selective modification of the band gaps of GaInNas/GaAs structures by quantum well intermixing techniques

2003

We report the unambiguous demonstration of controlled quantum well intermixing (QWI) in the technologically important GaInNAs/ GaAs 1.3 mum material system. QWI is a key technique to selectively modify the band gap of quantum wells, which has found broad application in semiconductor lasers and photonic integrated circuits (PICs). Extending such technology to GaInNAs/GaAs structures is highly desirable due to the technologically advantageous properties of this material system. Here, we investigate well-characterized GaInNAs quantum well material which has been annealed "to saturation" before QWI processing to allow unambiguous interpretation of results. After RTA at 700 degreesC for similar …

Application of the collective coordinate method to the analysis of the dynamics of mode-locked fiber lasers

2015

Mode-locked fiber laser are among the few systems that allow to achieve a variety of elaborate optical functions, by means of few optical components. The use of dispersion management brings to this type of lasers a variety of behaviors, which is so rich that the complete mapping and detailed analysis of the stable states becomes impractical when conventional tools based on the intra-cavity field propagation equations, are used. In this thesis we show that the addition of the technique ofcollective coordinates to the conventional theoretical tools, allows to solve at least in part the problem of complexity and diversity of the stable states of the cavity. In particular, we propose the DCCA (…

Weight cycling in combat sports: revisiting 25 years of scientific evidence

2021

Abstract Background As combat sports are classified by body mass, many athletes engage in rapid weight loss (RWL) prior to competition so they can gain an advantage over lighter opponents. Following the weigh-in, athletes engage in rapid weight gain (RWG), whereby some athletes have been able to compete up to three weight categories greater than the official division weighed in at. Results Although the impact of weight cycling on performance remains equivocal, robust scientific evidence indicates serious acute and chronic negative consequences on physiological and health-related parameters. Still, weight cycling remains highly prevalent in combat sports, and interventions to limit or stop t…

Recidivism and psychological factors in young violence against parents

2018

[EN] The study about variables associated with recidivism is important to reduce later criminal behaviors. The study of factors associated with recidivism will improve treatments. Rehabilitation of youth delinquent is important to minimize the number of adult offenders in the future. In Spain there are a lot of research about recidivism in young offenders, but only few studies have examined the variables associated with recidivism in adolescent violence towards parents. This study aimed to examine the rates of recidivism in young violence towards parents and to examine the relation between different variables and the rate of this recidivism. To this end, 72 young offenders admitted to a juv…

Recidivism risk reduction assessment in batterer intervention programs: A keyindicator for program efficacy evaluation

2014

AbstractThe evidence available on the efficacy of batterer intervention programs is still limited. The aim of the present study is twofold: (1) to analyze change in a set of intervention targets and their association with reconviction in a batterer intervention program implemented in Spain, and (2) to analyze pre-treatment participants’ characteristics linked with an increased likelihood of change. The research design was a prospective longitudinal study with measures obtained in two points in time (pre-treatment and post-treatment). Self-report measures, trained program staff assessment, and reconviction official records were used. Participants consisted of 212 offenders participating in a…

The Willingness to Intervene in Cases of Intimate Partner Violence Against Women (WI-IPVAW) Scale: Development and Validation of the Long and Short V…

2018

Willingness to intervene when one becomes aware of a case of intimate partner violence against women (IPVAW) reflects the level of tolerance and acceptance of this type of violence in society. Increasing the likelihood of intervention to help victims of IPVAW is also a target for prevention strategies aiming to increase informal social control of IPVAW. In this study, we present the development and validation of the Willingness to Intervene in Cases of Intimate Partner Violence (WI-IPVAW) scale. We report data for both the long and short versions of the scale. We analyzed the latent structure, the reliability and validity of the WI-IPVAW across four samples (N = 1648). Factor analyses suppo…
