Optimisation of Thermochromic Thin Films on Glass; Design of Intelligent Windows

Theoretically thermochromic glazing has the potential to reduce energy consumption in buildings by allowing visible light for day lighting, reducing unwanted solar gain during the cooling season, while allowing useful solar gain in the heating season. In this study building simulation is used to predict the savings made by novel thermochromic glazing coatings compared to standard products, for locations with different climates. The results suggest that thermochromic glazing can have a significant energy saving effect compared to current approaches.

Performance analysis of amplify-and-forward cooperative communication systems with channel estimation errors

Cooperative diversity is a transmission technique that achieves a diversity gain by using a combination of the relayed signal and the direct signal. In this paper, we study the symbol-error-rate (SER) performance of a cooperative communication system operating in an amplify-and-forward (AF) mode, where the channel state information (CSI) available at the receiver is an estimate of the channel gains with estimation errors. We derive both the probability density function and the moment generating function of the instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at the destination terminal. Shaping women's agency through temporality in "The life and activity of the holy and blessed teacher Syncletica"

The present article attempts to discuss the relationship between two female characters, Thecla and Syncletica, against the wider theoretical background of temporality as it was perceived and construed through literary texts. Syncletica is portrayed as a ‘disciple’ of Thecla. However, while the apocryphal Acts of Paul and Thecla appear to be pervaded with an eschatological expectation, the Life of Saint Syncletica shows signs of a different temporality. The detailed description of the whole life of Syncletica, with an emphasis on the course of illness, reveals a temporality more focused on the stages of life. The Patres ecclesiae?s works were a frequent topic of discussion at the time in which many humanists stood against the decadent medieval scholastics. That Juan Luis Vives was part of this tradition is demonstrated in his commentaries on Saint Augustine works. Despite its pedagogical function, the scholia of the Valencian author became quite subjective. In this sense, his ecdotic work or, specially, his «criticisms and censures» can be mentioned. Here, Vives strongly disapproves of the intense political and intellectual turmoil of his epoch.
