Walking Speed as an Alternative Measure of Functional Status in Patients with Lumbar Spinal Stenosis

Objective The main objective was to compare estimated walking perimeter (WP) and actual WP during a free walking test (6-minute walk test [6MWT]) in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). The second objective was to describe the correlation between measured gait parameters and functional parameters. Methods This was a single-center prospective study including 38 patients with symptomatic LSS (23 men, 15 women; mean age, 69.3 ± 7.9 years). The intervention was the 6MWT. Dual-task conditions on static postural control in older adults: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Dual-task (DT) consists of the performance of two tasks simultaneously. An index of DT difficulty has been linked to decreased postural control. Because a wide range of DT is employed, this study aimed to evaluate its effects in static balance in older adults. PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus were screened, and the secondary tasks were grouped as manual, reaction time, discrimination and decision making, mental tracking, verbal fluency, working memory, or “other” tasks. Abstract Objective To evaluate the effects of surgery and a postoperative progressive home exercise program on gait parameters among individuals operated with total knee arthroplasty. If a foot is fixed in plantar flexion such as to inhibit a dorsal flexion beyond a rectangular position with reference to the lower leg the resulting syndrome is called pes equinus. These patients exhibit a characteristic gait with stance phases on tiptoe that may amount to a severe handicap for them. The pes equinus is a most common deformity found in patients with a hemiplegic or diplegic disorder in the region of the foot and the lower leg with typical structural changes in the ankle joint and the calf muscles. This paper presents a novel approach to human gait analysis using a marker-free system. The devised acquisition system is composed of three synchronized and calibrated charge coupled device cameras. The aim of this work is to recognize in gray level image sequences the leg of a walking human and to reconstruct it in the three-dimensional space. A 3-D marker-free system for the analysis of movement disabilities--an application to the legs.

The aim of this paper is to describe an approach allowing the analysis of human motion in three-dimensional (3-D) space. The system that we developed is composed of three charge-coupled-device cameras that capture synchronized image sequences of a human body in motion without the use of markers. Characteristic points belonging to the boundaries of the body in motion are first extracted from the initial images. Two-dimensional superquadrics are then adjusted on these points by a fuzzy clustering process.
