Functional Data Analysis for Gait Analysis after Stroke

Variability is one of the key determinants of gait after stroke. Functional Data Analysis (FDA) is a suitable tool to deal with variability associated with movement analysis patterns. In this contribution (FDA) has been applied for the analysis 53 post-stroke patients. Functional Principal Components Analysis (FPCA) has been applied. Dependence of velocity on the functional state of the patient has been found as well as other mechanisms that are hidden in conventional parametric analysis of the curves.

: Peripheral neuropathy is a prevalent complication of diabetes that can lead to gait impairment and its adverse consequences. This study explored the potential utility of different parameters of gait analysis using a single sensor unit as a simple tool to detect peripheral neuropathy in 85 diabetic patients (DP) with diabetic foot in whom different somato-sensitivity tests in the feet were performed. Summary Peripheral neuromas can result in an unbearable neuropathic pain and functional impairment. Their treatment is still challenging, and their optimal management is to be defined. Experimental research still plays a major role, but - although numerous neuroma models have been proposed on different animals - there is still no single model recognised as being the reference. Life-Space Mobility in Parkinson's Disease: Associations with Motor and Non-Motor Symptoms.

Background To describe life-space mobility and explore associations of motor and non-motor symptoms with life-space mobility in people with Parkinson’s disease (PD). Methods About 164 community-dwelling persons with PD (mean age 71.6 years, 64.6% men) received a postal survey and a subsequent home visit.
