Gallbladder Agenesis: Report of a Preoperative Diagnosis With Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography

Agenesis of the gallbladder is an extremely rare congenital entity with shaded clinical and radiologic features, which make the preoperative diagnosis really challenging. Here, we report a case of a 52-year-old symptomatic female with biliary symptoms and contracted gallbladder at ultrasound (US). The final diagnosis was made with magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) and the treatment was conservative. However, diagnosing this condition preoperatively is still challenging. However, with innovations in terms of biliary tract imaging technique, and with better knowledge of this entity, many unnecessary surgical procedures might be avoided.

An unusual fatal case of overdose of Vinblastine and review of literature

The pharmacological treatment of neoplasia is based on the use of chemotherapeutic substances. Chemotherapeutic agents can cause acute and chronic toxicity even at therapeutic doses. For this reason their overdose puts a patient’s life at severe risk. This work presents an unusual fatal case of overdose subsequent to an accidental massive administration of Vinblastine (90 mg instead of 9 mg), slow bolus (five minutes), to a 33-year-old woman who suffered from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Control of Gastric Acid Secretion in Somatostatin Receptor 2 Deficient Mice: Shift from Endocrine/Paracrine to Neurocrine Pathways

The gastrin-enterochromaffin-like (ECL) cell-parietal cell axis is known to play an important role in the regulation of gastric acid secretion. Somatostatin, acting on somatostatin receptor type 2 (SSTR2), interferes with this axis by suppressing the activity of the gastrin cells, ECL cells, and parietal cells. Surprisingly, however, freely fed SSTR2 knockout mice seem to display normal circulating gastrin concentration and unchanged acid output. Endothelial Bmx tyrosine kinase activity is essential for myocardial hypertrophy and remodeling

Cardiac hypertrophy accompanies many forms of heart disease, including ischemic disease, hypertension, heart failure, and valvular disease, and it is a strong predictor of increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Deletion of bone marrow kinase in chromosome X (Bmx), an arterial nonreceptor tyrosine kinase, has been shown to inhibit cardiac hypertrophy in mice. Postoperative Lens Position Preoperatively Determined by Scheimpflug Photography

The position of the artificial lens has an important influence on refractive power calculation. We compared the position of the crystalline lens with that of the artificial lens after cataract surgery by means of Scheimpflug photography. A difference in position of approximately 0.8 mm in the anterior direction could be determined.
