Weekly Levofolinic Acid and 5-Fluorouracil Plus Hydroxyurea in Metastatic Gastrointestinal Adenocarcinomas

There were 42 patients with advanced gastrointestinal carcinomas (GA) enrolled in the study. In the Phase I part of the study we identified the MTD of 5-fluorouracil (5FU) in combination with levofolinic acid 100 mg/m2 per week intravenously plus hydroxyurea 1 g/m2 per week given by mouth in 3 refracted doses starting 6 hours after 5FU was administered. This treatment was given weekly for 6 consecutive weeks followed by a 15-day rest period. We were not able to increase 5FU weekly dosage above 700 mg/m2 due to the occurrence of grade 3-4 gastrointestinal toxicity. Effect of daily intake of pomegranate juice on fecal microbiota and feces metabolites from healthy volunteers

cope The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effect, regarding the metabolic and microbial profile of feces, of diet supplementation of healthy adults with pomegranate juice (PJ). Methods and results Twelve healthy adults were recruited to the study, which consisted of the intake of 200 mL/day of PJ during 4 weeks. Feces were collected before and after the supplementation with PJ. Metabolites (phenolic catabolites, short-chain fatty acids, and fecal steroids) and microbial profile were analyzed at baseline and at 4 weeks. The aim of the present study was to use gastrointestinal simulation technology and in vitro-in vivo correlation (IVIVC) as tools to investigate a possible extension of biowaiver criteria to BCS class II drugs using carbamazepine (CBZ) as a candidate compound. Gastrointestinal simulation based on the advanced compartmental absorption and transit model implemented in GastroPlus was used. Actual in vitro and in vivo data generated in CBZ bioequivalence studies were used for correlation purposes. Therefore, methods to gain deeper insights into particle dissolution in vivo are needed. Enteroscopy and its relationship to radiological small bowel imaging

The field of radiological small bowel imaging is changing rapidly, as is small bowel enteroscopy. New techniques allow the depiction of intraluminal, mural, and extraintestinal features of various small bowel disorders, such as Crohn disease, small bowel polyposis syndromes, small intestinal malignancies, and celiac disease. For patients requiring repeated small bowel imaging, modalities that do not use ionizing radiation, such as ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging, should be considered.

Abstract Background: Percutaneous endoscopic tube placement can be problematic under certain circumstances: absence of transillumination of the abdominal wall, percutaneous jejunostomy in patients with a PEG tube and recurrent aspiration, enteral feeding access after gastrectomy, and obstruction of the upper GI tract.
