Le funzioni delle reti mirabili encefaliche

2009

Weyland A. et all.(2000), affermano …

Poor nutritional quality of primary producers and zooplankton driven by eutrophication is mitigated at upper trophic levels

2022

Eutrophication and rising water temperature in freshwaters may increase the total production of a lake while simultaneously reducing the nutritional quality of food web components. We evaluated how cyanobacteria blooms, driven by agricultural eutrophication (in eutrophic Lake Köyliöjärvi) or global warming (in mesotrophic Lake Pyhäjärvi), influence the biomass and structure of phytoplankton, zooplankton, and fish communities. In terms of the nutritional value of food web components, we evaluated changes in the ω-3 and ω-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) of phytoplankton and consumers at different trophic levels. Meanwhile, the lakes did not differ in their biomasses of phytoplankton, zoo…

Automatic image-based identification and biomass estimation of invertebrates

2020

1. Understanding how biological communities respond to environmental changes is a key challenge in ecology and ecosystem management. The apparent decline of insect populations necessitates more biomonitoring but the time-consuming sorting and expert-based identification of taxa pose strong limitations on how many insect samples can be processed. In turn, this affects the scale of efforts to map and monitor invertebrate diversity altogether. Given recent advances in computer vision, we propose to enhance the standard human expert-based identification approach involving manual sorting and identification with an automatic image-based technology. 2. We describe a robot-enabled image-based ident…

Reputation-Based Blockchain for Spatial Crowdsourcing in Vehicular Networks

2022

The sharing of high-quality traffic information plays a crucial role in enhancing the driving experience and safety performance for vehicular networks, especially in the development of electric vehicles (EVs). The crowdsourcing-based real-time navigation of charging piles is characterized by low delay and high accuracy. However, due to the lack of an effective incentive mechanism and the resource-consuming bottleneck of sharing real-time road conditions, methods to recruit or motivate more EVs to provide high-quality information gathering has attracted considerable interest. In this paper, we first introduce a blockchain platform, where EVs act as the blockchain nodes, and a reputation-base…

Dagli anni ruggenti dell’«Ora». I dibattiti sul Gattopardo

2019

Impacts of piscicide-induced fish removal on resource use and trophic diversity of lake invertebrates

2022

Chemical eradication of non-native species has become a widely used method to mitigate the potential negative im- pacts of altered competitive or predatory dynamics on biodiversity and natural ecosystem processes. However, the re- sponses of non-target species can vary from rapid full recovery to delayed or absent recolonization, and little is known about the potential shifts in resource use and trophic diversity of native species following chemical treatments. We used a before-after-control-impact approach to study the effects of rotenone piscicide treatment on abundance and tro- phic niche of benthic invertebrates in three untreated and three treated lakes in central Norway, the latter gr…
